I've googled this, but came up with nothing. So I'm wondering if anyone here could tell me some of the names of the latest good family cars.

Both 5 seater and 7 seaters.

    Thanks!

Kia Ceed SW for a 5 seater? very roomy and good fuel economy
    Skoda Octavia/Superb - as above?
not sure about the 7 seaters but I drove both, the Ceed and the Octavia, great for space and handle well

C-Max/S-Max are good. New Meriva looks decent for what it is.

Thanks so much everyone. Yis are all so helpful! I am really grateful.

Value for money is important to be honest. I do want a fairly new car, but at the same time I'm not looking to spend a fortune. :) So it's not that I'm penny pinching, but that I want bang for my buck. Like I'd pay extra for quality, but not for bells and whistles.

Kids would be under the age of 12, so nobody tall or anything.

I would also like fuel efficient I suppose, as don't go down the country much, just to school, friends and to the shops, but petrol has gotten so darn expensive.

Peugot 307SW is a 7 seater you could pick one up fairly easy I'd imagine, its car based so its not a MPV.
other 7 MPV seaters Opel Zafira, a nice ride but a bit boring inside imo.
Renault Scenic 5 seater, and Renault Grand Scenic. Aery nice inside and very comfortable but prone to small niggly electric problems
Citroen Xsara Picasso 5 seater or the newer C4 Picasso 5 and 7 seater. both nice esp the c4, but same as Renault prone to small problems.
As someone mentioned Ford C+S max, I have never drove these so I cant really comment also galaxy which is a bit bigger.
Others.....Honda stream.....Hyandai Matrix/Trajet.....Kia Carnival(I only test drove one and didnt like the drive or anything about it really eg it had only 120K KM but steering wheel was down to the bone, seats were well worn esp passanger sides, the handles of the inside door was down to the factory finish.....before it gets painted just screamed TAXI to me.)
Seat Alahambra....toyato Verso and VW Touran and Sharan. are others just take them for a test drive and see what you think yourself then.

One thing I've learned here is if you are only doing shop hop journeys then diesel would be a big NO. You will only do damage in the long run to the engine, and there is no savings to be made with short jorneys as diesel takes longer to heat up to become efficent with savings....so

......the premium you pay to get a diesel will not justify it + the savings you will not get as you only do short hop journeys + plus the engine problems you will get regarding DPF soot because of short hop journeys make it realistic for you to buy petrol
