Contest applications on Facebook

    Hi Everyone

I'm trying to get my online business off the ground and so have been running a contest on facebook encouraging people to like the image of the product they'll be winning (not giving price details, etc.) and to share it with friends. I'm up to 850 likes on the page but it has come to my attention that I could be in danger of getting shut down if I don't pay for and download an app of some sort. I have entered competitions like this on the likes of Dr Oetker with no such apps in place so I'm just wondering if this is something I should be worrying about? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You need to familiarise yourself with Facebook promotions guidelines. Running the competition that you describe breaches policy and you do risk getting your page deleted. Yes plenty of people breach the rules and seem to get away with it and plenty more get their pages removed.

Basically you can't use native Facebook functionality e.g. Like as a competition mechanic. I gather that share hasn't been that well boxed off so that's why people thought there was a loophole.

Irrespective of this you can't use native Facebook functionality to contact a winner so that rules out private messaging or posting a message on a wall asking them to contact you or using the Message button.

So the only way to run a promotion on Facebook that is compliant with policy is to use a third party app.

You should have a look at Northsocial.com or Wildfireapps.com They have some cheap options that you pay by the month.
