I have a very large file to send. How can I send it to someone? Is there a way?

The file is too big for email, and I dont have a big enough memory stick to swop over. I dont think the other person has a big memory stick either.

    Any other way?

How big is the file? You could probably set up a dropbox account and share the file that way.

    www.dropbox.com

its going to depend on the size of the file and the speed of your internet connection.

could you burn it to DVD?

what sort of file is it? there's a possibility that it could be compressed significantly with Winzip or similar compression software and then have the smaller compressed file cpied to a usb stick or DVD?

Possibly 4 different ways I can think of..

    1. Use KGB archiver.. Possibly the best compression software I've compressed 2.5gb to about 50mb. It took a while but it worked..it's free but very CPU intensive.

    2. Use Dropbox or Rapidshare or one of the other filehosts..depending on filesize You again may Need to split the file this can be done using winrar into split archive rar files or using hjsplit which won't archive the file just split it..

    3. Use one of the above to split the file into small enough parts to send over e-mail.

    4. This isn't too known but I've used it..windows live messenger had ( not sure if it still does) a file transfer option to send pictures and media. If its an exe it wont let you send It But you can just create a rar file of the file you want to send and bind it to a picture. It will open as a jpeg but if you open it with winrar it will open the rar file housed inside the jpeg

To do this create a folder on your desktop say bad call it whatever for this I'm using folder Place the 2 files(ie rar file you wish to send with a jpeg) I'm calling them 1.rar and 2.jpg
    Open up command prompt

    Type "cd desktop" press enter
    Type "cd folder" press enter
    Type "copy /b 1.rar + 2.jpg 3.jpg"

All the above are without quotation marks

Your new file called 3.jog will open as a picture then when you right click an open as choose winrar and it will open as rar file

OP, can you define "very large" - it can be anything between 100MB and 3TB or more..

You can use https://one.ubuntu.com/ up to 5 GB

Its a 3 GB file. What's the easiest way to send it? Its too big for email. And i have 4gb memory stick with about 700 mb left on it, so that wont do.

Backup whatever's on your mem stick to the computer, use the stick to transfer the file, and restore your stuff to the stick afterwards.

Copy everything off the memory stick -- wipe it -- and use that

where is the file being sent to if you can make multiple trips then split the file into 500mb Winrar files then use your USB stick then extract the file in the location or use hjsplit to split and just rejoin the files.. if you are using Hotmail you could use skydrive if gmail they have a cloud component too or use Dropbox it's free and you can use it again and again

even if your internet has a 1Mbps upload, you'll still spend about 7 hours uploading it and that's assuming that the connection never drops in that time.

the quickest and simplest method is to copy everything off your USB drive onto your PC so it is empty and then copy the large file over to it, take it to the person who needs it, then bring it back and copy your stuff back onto the usb drive, job done.

or failing that, 3gb will fit on a dvd if you have a dvd burner.

Put it as a data file on a DVD disc and post it.

Just thought id add http://demo.ovh.ie/ to the list of ways to send large files.
They only keep files for 4 days but speeds are great and no membership fees
