    Hi all.

A keen golfing novice here. Bought my clubs three years ago and just can't seem to get my friends to play on a regular basis.. I'm 30 from the central Dublin area so travel isn't an issue. I have no handicap as of yet with the lack of playing time. So I'm lookin for anybody in the same boat looking to play on a regular basis..

Difficulty in getting someone to play with at times that suit is what prompts most people to join a golf club.

Some clubs have beginner membership at reduced rates and there'e also the option of joining a society or going to lessons, where you will meet people with an interest in golf.

You could also try googling something like "golf beginners dublin" to turn up some options.

As golfwallah mentioned, a society is your best bet. Check out your local pub, gaa or even your work place. You'd be surprised how many societies are out there. And as is the case with most societies, its about playing golf with your buddies and making friends not about prizes. Making the whole experience very relaxed and enjoyable.

First things first , get yourself joined up with the boards.ie golf society :D We have an outing this Saturday , you will meet a lot of likeminded folk there , Im usually good for a game or two a week myself .

I work my own hours so I can sneak a few hours off or a half day to get a round in !

Cheers golfwallah I'll have a lookout for any societies and golf club memberships but with a golf membership would I not be still in the same situation?

Like everything in life, there are pros and cons - rarely a yes / no answer.

Joining a society is a good way to get to know other golfers, if playing about once a month is what you want. However, if you want to play weekly or more often, society golf outings can work out a bit expensive and you might need to join more than one society.

If you want to play once a week or more, then golf club membership is a better option. Most operate a timesheet (usually web-based), so you can put your name down on the same line as other people and gradually get to know other members.

As regards what club to join, you can go for pay and play options, 5 day, 7 day, beginner, introductory, or age based membership rates in most clubs - there's lots of choice out there and joining / entrance fees ("hello money") has all but disappeared in the majority of clubs - reducing the risk, if you decide to change the following year.

My advice is to do your homework. Most clubs will give you (and a friend, if you ask) a free green fee to try out their facilities.

Take the time Shop around and see what suits you best in terms of fees, distance from home, course layout, practice and other facilities, club finances, etc., and then decide.

Best of luck & Happy Golfing!

If youre available I'm out nearly every wednesday or thursday and I play cutywest. If youre interested then I'd be happy of the company as I mostly play on my own as its not overly busy at 9:30am week days
