    Hello Boardsies..

ok i am in fulltime employment and have been for 18 years (6 years in current job). Twice in my life i have been made redundant due to companies closing down and found myself on the dole, and then back in employment so i know i am lucky to have a job with things the way they are now...

However, in the past 2 years i have been constantly overloaded in work with more and more roles and responsibilities and taking on pretty much all the tasks that my boss once handled... i would have no problem with this if i was being rewarded accordingly with pay or promotion, but im not!! i am just stuck at the lowest level and given the usual excuse that things are too tight at the moment and im lucky to have a job!

Now i know im lucky, but im not a bloody sucker!! im doing 3 times as much work as i was 2 years ago and on the same crap wage, plus i now have a hell of a lot more responsibility for things which brings on added stress, This last week i have been out on medical leave and i know for a fact it is begin brought on by work related stress, i am due back tomorrow but even the thought of going back in is making my chest tight and my breath short!!

In my 18 years of employment i have never been one for sickies or faking days off, in fact this is the longest i can recall ever being off work in one go... but i have a very big fear that i am going to make a huge mistake and walk out as soon as the straw that breaks the camels back presents itself!! I have debt and bills just like everyone else so i cant afford to jack in my job, but my health is really beginning to suffer now and i am worried about that, part of me is saying "just work though it" and another part of me is saying "screw that, you have been working through it for 2 years now, and your health needs to come first now"

Can anyone advise me on how to handle work related stress that doesnt include wrapping my keyboard around my bosses head tomorrow?

sorry if none of this makes any sense, this is all brand new to me, i have always been a happy worker in any job i had before.

One last thing.. my boss is not the kinda guy you can chat too, he sits right beside me all day, but if he has a problem he wont talk to me, he just goes straight to HR and then i get pulled into a meeting.... yep.. that kinda guy :-/

    Thanks for reading

    I suggest this http://www.comh.ca/antidepressant-skills/work/

This workbook worked wonders for me and it was recommended by my therapist. I highly suggest reading it and doing the exercises. Don't be fooled about the title. This booklet does help with depression, anxiety, burn-out related issues in the workplace. They have exercises and suggestions on how to deal with difficult colleagues and supervisors. It is almost a hundred pages long, print it at home and keep it there. When you are this miserable and stressed at work as you say you are, unfortunately you are putting yourself at risk of becoming burnt out or depressed. Have a look at it. Good luck.
