Put down these bricks last December and in the last few months these stains have appeared on the walls as per attached photo. The house is ICF constructed so there is just meche & plaster finish to the outside. The patio is laid on sand on compacted CL804 (standard construction). There is a fall of 80mm at the widest part & 60 at the narrowest part away from the wall. Has anyone ever come across this or can explain what these patches are from? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Treascon,

I think its water staining, I would check that either of the drains in the picture are not backing up or have not been disturbed by the weight of the patio bricks.

You could also check where the downpipe meets the chutes to see if water is being directed along the back of the downpipe rather than into it.

You will have to sort out this problem before you even consider painting your house.

This link should provide you with an explanation of that the white marks are.

Best of luck with it because not only does it look unsightly I'd imagine its not doing your exterior plasterwork and good.

    Regards,

    Fries.
