Well well well lads, season 15 is before us.

What are you predictions and goals?

    Possible downfalls ahead?

Cup run a possibility or focusing on the league?

New facilities or a load of cash to blow on players?

Another season of coming second at best, 4th at worst i suspect. see what the teams are like coming down at me. So in reality, camping in Div 3.

I am beginning my long term plan now, finally getting rid of the last few "originals" in my squad, not spending money on the TM except on good youngsters etc.

Next target is getting to a few 100k CSR players.

Decided to have quite the clear out at the end of season so hopefully il be able to buy a quality back from it.

Team is going through bit of a transition at minute but hopefully il still be strong enough to go on good cup run and be a top 2 team in my div.

Just got promoted to Div I, and I hope to stay there! I put 400k into the stadium, and have 2/3 new training recruits. A 205cm Lock ( 30k-ish csr 17yo, ) and a 136kg prop, 17yo also! Will be harder to focus on cup this year, but having fallen at the semi last year, i'd love to reach the final!

Laid a bit of ground work last season and will have 16000 capacity stadium open and praying for a bit of a cup run.

Don't think i can improve that much in league position but i'm happy enough holding my own in Div 2.

I've been toying with the idea of using next season to train up to at least a level 4 kicking coach. Main kicker is closing on retirement and the rest of my backs wouldn't be up to taking his place. So kicking best trained or bought?

I trained my current kicker up from lvl 11 to 18 kicking, but once he pops his BR clogs, i'll just be buying a decent kicker, unless that is I get an amazing recruit who i'd train anyway. My current 10 is only 24 so i'll think about changing up and looking into replacing in 3 or so seasons.

If I needed a kicker right now? I'd buy. If I had plenty of time and a spare training spot.

Got relegated back to div 4 after my first season in div 3 so im aiming to be back in div 3 with better facilities and coaches and be much better prepared to stay up in div 3

They can be seriously expensive. I recently sold an absolute stinker of a youth pull for stupid amounts of money, just because he had a 9 in kicking. Looking back, think my current main kicker was only an 8 in kicking, but with some on/off training he's now 15 and still has another 7 seasons left in him (I like to cull them young.)
Depends on whether you can wait, I guess. I currently have his replacements in training, so they're doing their time as fullbacks etc, but are being groomed for OH.

Got relegated back to d4 after first year in d3. Sold my superstar prop for just shy of a million and recruited another 125kg 20k csr replacement for him so should be ok this year. Bought level 5 facilities, attack, defense coaches so by the end of this season ill have level 5 for everything and should be promoted back to d3 and ready to push on.

Average age of my team is 21 and I only have 2 starters over 21 so the more progress in training the better. Also increased my stadium this season as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭Davyboy.

Just reduced the age profile of my squad by selling my 3 oldest players, made a monster profit on them.

Incresing stadium capacity by 1,500 (12,500 capacity by 8th April).

Gonna wait til mid season to see if I can pick up a bargain on the TM. I'll be hanging onto johnnysmack's shirt til then, Hopefully he can drag me with him into the playoffs at season end :D

Just got a look at the prematch stars.... Div III here I come :(

It's a tricky one. Kickers who are also good players are seriously expensive to buy. Was actually talking with fewcifur just there and was saying how I'm looking to spend a chunk of my 2 million cash reserve on a new outhalf during the coming season.

One big consideration to the train or buy is if you already have a kicking trainer or not. If I wanted one I would have to go up through the levels in avertising as I never had one before which takes time and money. Than accounting for the wages of the trainers and possible cost of the player if he is not from your ya. In the long run I figured I would train for other positions in house and buy in kickers when needed.

I've never had a kicking trainer either and i figure it'll cost 340,000 + wages and 28 weeks to get to level 5. It's a lot of money but i think to replace my current 10 with a like for like but younger replacement would probably cost a couple of million on the transfer market. Prices are ridiculous for specialist players.

I think i can justify the cost because i'll be training 9,10 and fullback too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭mar-z

I've thought about the trainer too. Unfortunately my outhalf is 32 so I'm biting the bullet and dropping a load of cash on one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭satory

I thought ahead about this one a few seasons ago...

My out half is currently 28 with a 15 in Kicking, while my current scrum half is only 21 with a 13 in kicking... When I remember to change it for friendlies my scrum half takes the kicks, while all other games its my out half.

I fired my kicking trainer when my current scrum half hit double digits in Kicking, and at the moment I don't have any form of kicking training, bar the exception of IGT.

In a season or 2, I'll be moving my 9 to the 10 slot, and looking to get a new younger scrum half, and when I do I'll hire a kicking trainer until his kicking stats are in double digits.

Back down to div 3 so aiming for some silverware this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,386 ✭✭✭jprender

Would be nice to win Div 2 again this season, but I'm going to have to sort out some of my ageing players as a priority I think.

    Top 4 will suffice.

After a chinwag with Mar-Z, I'm changing the CSDS strategy of two mediocre squads, and bringing it back to a clear case of 1sts and 2nds. 5 players already prepped for sale on Saturday, some of them fan favourites, but I had to make the call.

36 players? WTF?!?! are you even making money Fewi!??!

My targets for the season - cup run and then when out focus on the league. aim is to try and bounce straight back to division II. could be tough but with the league I think i will get a good few players trained up to better the squad.

Yes, and then I realised that having 6 viable 2nd rows was perhaps too much.
I'm making a lot of tough choices and getting rid of some of my best players, but they have persistent flaws whereas the younger crop are less skilled but are more promising.
Hopefully I get some good bang for my buck. Gonna try sell them Saturday afternoon time.

I'm paying the bills. No real room for big buys though.

My aim this season is to consolidate a second top four finish in the league again. But Im also thinking about attempting a cup run, so I have brought in a few new players and at the moment I have 2 distinct 15's.

The only problem with this is that I am losing 83k a week at the moment, so as soon as my cup run is over I'll need to lighten the numbers in my squad.

IN regards to team training, I have my UTP S16 trainee still looking well, though I think he might miss out on the U20 squad, as he seems to be slightly behind on the training curve. I am also looking at having my first >100K CSR player in 2/3 weeks, which I am looking forward to achieving that milestone...

Well all the young fellas are going to get lots of games.

Should be nice to actually win some games this season! I'm going to try to make a big effort to improve my tactic making, after 9 seasons on the game its about time!

Rugby Rumble has less of a ring to it. Where's the pizazz? Zah zah zah!

Right, loads of my lads now on the transfer market. Go on and live long brave team chums.

It is isn't it. Anyone still have any originals left? I have 2 and one still has a good 5 seasons left in him.

I have two originals left on the starting team but on my squad i have 7 or 8 that i bought in my first season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭eoferrall

I have two orginals I think, one definitely as he is a mainstay of my team still, one of my higher CSR players too and limited training. jsut consitent matches, getting on now. will be 30 this season. have several I bought in first season, in fact the spine of the team was bought then. fleshed out with new trained talent..training replacements now.

seperation anxiety is perfectly normal for your little babies, but they must flew the coup to grew and achieve their potential sometimes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,746 ✭✭✭✭FewFew

I think I sold the last of my originals last season, but still have a load of 1st season buys. Actually, some of the lads I'm currently selling are of that vintage. Feels somewhat wrong as they've been my mainstay for so long. Had one lad as the apprentice to my then out half, as reflected in his nickname, but a two season gap wasn't enough, sure the apprentice never gained the skills to take over and now he's going. Awww.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭mar-z

Have one origninal who plays regularly and 3-4 first season buys. I just sold off another 2-3 1st season buys last season. Was hard to do it, I kept trying to second guess the decision and find a reason for me to keep them on.

I think it will be even harder to lose some of my ya trainees in future seasons though.

I often wonder about how that'd be best achieved. Drop the TNT hammer, full 1sts... but would you also throw in a crazy amount of creative and expansive?
I always make sure to keep my forwards in play for stability sake, but against a bot where you know you're going to dominate them, do you just throw caution to the wind or would that have a negative effect on the scoreline.
Obviously you wouldn't lose, but, would they take advantage of your risky ball play?

Might try it next week and see.

I've got 6 bots plus a soon to be bot in my league might try this some weekend.

I thought they sorted all of that lark out with the bot flush and such things. Pretty damn annoying.

Though, having said that, I got 97% turnout in a match against a bot. Not as damaging to the aul coffers as I would have thought.

I thought I was going to get a similar scoreline today against Ireland's "most improved manager", but my on-form wonder kicker seems to be unable to convert anything.

    I love the commentary sometimes...

"It's now 60 - 0. Galway French will want the next score to try and stay in touch"

    In touch with what?! :pac:
