So, it's car insurance renewal time, and the company I am with the last 2 years [through a broker] sent a quotation for almost DOUBLE what I paid last year. I was paying €380 last year and any quotes I've gotten this year are at least €440 :( Is there no chance of getting a similar/cheaper quote?

As for the whole double quote, I'm baffled. Couldn't get a reason why it had doubled either!!!!

Shop around. Get the golden pages out and ring every one of the insurance companies and brokers and get a quote.

    How is 380 x2 440???

Get out the phone book and ring around every insurance company..

I AM ringing around, and none of them are coming up cheaper than last years premium.

380 x 2 obviously ISN'T 440. The company I was with last year sent their renewal for 718, but the cheapest I have gotten elsewhere is 440.

Existing crowd were double, other quotes were €440 :)

I'm finding insurance quit expensive this year too, €500/€600 quotes, only the existing crowd are reasonable at €380, they were €300 last year.

I wouldn't mind, but I'm a year older and my car is worth even less this year, so wasn't expecting to be paying MORE :( But it seems it's just a general thing. I've 5 years NCB too. And I'm a woman! All things that should work in my favour :P

So 440 is now what you get when you multiply 380 x 2

Insurance rises every year, your quote depends on your age/ type of vehicle/ engine size and how long you have held a FULL driving licence
    Shop around

brush up on your maths whilest your at it

Shop around every website and phone every company/broker. Pick best quote.

The gender thing was ruled out last year so women cant get cheaper quotes any more , something to do with equality legislation
Try First Ireland, they are pretty good
    best of luck

English comprehension seems rather lacking in this thread...

Clearly I can't have been typing Double Dutch when SOME people copped. Seriously, read it PROPERLY.

Nothing has changed - same car. No penalty points. No claims. License and NCB all have an extra year. Looks like its a +€60 for this year's premium so :(

For all those people who don't seem to understand BASIC English, that means I'll be paying an EXTRA €60 than I was on last year's premium :)

You might want to brush up on your English skills. Capital letters & spelling are a great place to start.

Op i had the same in feb, my own company quoted €780 and when i rang to see if that was their best price they said yes. I shopped around and got it for 600 in The end which i was delighted with and when i rang to say i wouldnt be renewing they offered me a renewal for 680 so i said goodbye. I went with tesco

Thank you. To be fair, I have phoned broker & they came down by €40. But it's still more expensive than last year.

Only if you have a sh*tty deal, insist on staying with same crowd, don't shop around and are happy to be ripped off.
Otherwise it should go down every year.
Paying E330 for a CMax because I dump insurance every time they try to jack up the price and the same will happen to my current crowd if they try that crap on me.
So, to recap, Insurance falls every year.

Use something like insure.ie or one of the comparison sites to compare prices .

If no claims against u it should not have doubled ..
My dad used have a similiar thing happen to him renewal quotes used be saucy prices coming back to him each yr as well . For a while he just renewed and thought nothing of it . Now though it's Diff . Funny too when u ring up to query how fast a compromise can be I.e reduction in premium cost

Coming from a company who are crying for customers it is. I was quite shocked tbh.....

Ring first Ireland for young male drivers, they have crazy cheap prices for 18 to 24 year olds, cheaper than Britons,

I'd bet you any money you'll get it cheaper than 1569 in your own name.

Yes but I only turned 17 3 weeks ago. I'll get a quote off them tomorrow, but I thought 1569 was brilliant for no ncb, 17 year old, & learner permit!

Don't bother, their min premium for males aged 17 is 2500. If you were 18 I'd say it would be about 1000.

    + 1 for First Ireland

I was 19 on provisional when I first got insured by them, my quote was 1074 for a 1997 Polo.. At least 300e cheaper than anyone else I tried, some places were quoting me as much as 1800.. Good luck with it!

    To stickysocks - origonal query

I have gotten quotes with AA, 25Plus, Chartis, Quote devil, Chill, Britton, 123.ie, best quote.............. it's not like I haven't rang around. Each year I get a renewal I always ring around, I'm not one of these people to accept whatever amount they send me without research. This year isn't proving too successful. Was undecided if I wanted Comp or TPFT this time [I've always had Fully Comp] so figure I'll stick with it. I couldn't afford to pay anything out on my car if I needed to so it's better to be safe than sorry.
