I got a job interview in a SPORTS shop that sells the likes of runners,t-shirts and tracksuits.... what should I wear for the interview?
I was going with a black shirt, black shoes and black slacks but I was told it would look better in jeans, new runners and a smart T-shirt.. Any advice? Cheers.

Only an imbecile would advise wearing jeans and T-shirt to an interview , just because its a sportswear shop does not mean you don't make an effort.
Would the same person recommend wearing just a bra and knickers to someone being interviewed for a lingerie shop ?

The mind boggles at the number of times this question has been asked.

The whole point of an interview is to sell yourself. Suit (with tie) is always the way.

Better to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

While I agree with Delancey, I think a suit and tie would be OTT..
I'd be advising good dress trousers and a casual smart shirt, with shoes...

TBH, If you have top notch tidy, jet black jeans with a dress shirt and shoes it is also a good look for most interviews...

For years I interviewed for positions form operations to Engineers, and a suit+tie never swung it for anyone, never... T-shirt and jeans would be struck out ASAP..
