A few months ago I got my girlfriend a Samsung Galaxy i5500 - which has served her grand for a good while - but the screen broke so she needs a new phone. The i5500 is really basic, but it only cost €50 and has Android for all the apps etc - but the screen is tiny and the camera is fairly rubbish.

What other options are there for a half decent android phone, hopefully with a bigger screen than the i5000 - but still pretty cheap? Would it be worth considering something second hand? I'm thinking about €100 - any suggestions?

Have a look at the range on www.amazon.co.uk.They have phones to suit all pockets. I found their prices are better than the specialist phone retailers.

Im using a Galaxy Y from meteor as a second spare phone, €100 from carphonewarehouse. Nice little phone, flashed a custom rom onto it along with an ICS theme and its flying along here.

Id avoid zte racer 2's like the plague, I had 2 of them, both riddled with bug's and no custom rom support, albeit its a €60 handset but still best stay clear.

Thanks, the Y is practically the same as the one she has now - I want something with a much bigger screen. Hmm I'll have to keep looking

For a budget of €100 the only other option with a bigger screen I could think of is the galaxy mini, bigger phone overall but resolution isnt as good as the galaxy y. If you want much bigger/better then your going to have to extend the budget or have a look on adverts and see whats available secondhand.

The zte blade & blade 2, marketed as the Orange San Francisco in the uk, is still one of the best value handsets available.

Also check out the ZTE skate. It has a huge 4.3in screen, but is a little under powered.

If they don't take your fancy then you're probably better off waiting until the summer. Should be a new bunch of mid range handsets by then.

There is only one phone to buy if you have €100 and that is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini ST15i.

There is no other Android phone that can even compare with it at that price.

It's a cracking little phone for the price. On O2 though and would cost you €15 to get it unlocked.
