Engine sucked up water, what damage done?

Have came across an 07 Mondeo Titanium X 2.2 TDCi...

It has sucked water up into engine as was driven into a flood..

So my question is what damage is done in this scenario to the engine and what would need to be repaired? I know it might depend on the extent of the damage to the engine but in general if you were to open the engine up what and where is the damage done?

I can get this car at a very good price, so depending on the extent of the work needed I might buy.

Bent conrods at the least. Is it a non start? Make sure there is no bits of engine around the place. Them engines could be hard to find in a breakers yard if the engine is non repairable.

yeah its a non-starter, i tried a couple the main breakers to see if they have an engine but no joy...as regards to rebuilding the engine what else are ya looking at fixing? do the conrods snap/break/warp leading to piston/cylinder/crankshaft etc damage?

Such a car is only a good price if you can repair it yourself and get it back on the road without paying someone else to do so imo :)

Does it turn over? If not, have you tried pulling the sparkplugs and turning it over? If the conrods haven't been damaged it should fire out the water through the plugholes. Other it'll need a total strip or a new engine. It'd want to be a serious bargain, I mean for a fiver, before I'd take it.

You could also be looking at piston and valve stem/guide damage.

Water in quantity could be in the air filter housing, turbo/intercooler and exhaust system, including any sensors in there.

If the car has been lying around with any water in it I'd walk away. If the manifolds, etc., were pulled then you might be OK.

    Is this a 130bhp? Is it a 155 that's used in the ST Mondeo? (Not the 3.0 V6 ST220)

It's 175 brake if the new model, rare engine here.

New model and engine brought out in mid-late '07?

Yes, the newer model was more powerful than the older ST155.

i do have a mechanic friend where i would leave it with him and he can repair when he has the time this is why i have interest in this car...

Have been talking to 2 different Ford mechanics and both said to avoid it unless can find replacement engine, and there aint to many of them about

Whats the price, and how does it compare to a mint one.

I once had a 2.0 115bhp TDCi that suffered the same fate years ago. Blew the head, conrods all bent, filters destroyed. The decision was made to repair it with an indy which took ages. It would have been similar in price to get a new engine for it, as ford themselves had suggested. Back in 06 a new engine was €4000. The 2.2 would be a rare beast here and you may struggle to get one.

Be careful . I know someone who bought a car that was supposed to have hit a flood but in fact it was left on the beach and the tide came in on it and it could never be repaired properly because of the salt water. You need to find out the exact history of this car.
