    If you want to add the motorcycle category to your LP you'll have to do the Motorcycle theory test I'm afraid. The car theory only covers the W(Tractor/Work vechicles) as an extra.

    Your friend must of done the theory test a few years back when the Car theory test covered the bike. I should know because I was one of them.

    You will have to do the motorcycle theory test 100% Bassy if you want it added to your learner permit.

    If I have a B learner permit, and I pass the A/M theory test, how do I get the A/M line added to my LP? Do I need to reapply for a LP (forms, passport photos etc), or is there a quicker way? The RSA site was a bit vague.

    Yes the 5th edition will cover the theory test as it's the most current version, I'm not sure about taking two tests on the same day. Best way is to call them 1890 606 106.

    Yes. Once you pass the A/M theory test you have to complete another LP form with 2 signed photos, your current permit and your cert. You don't have to pay another fee as you are adding categorys.

    So;
    1. Pass A/W theory test
    2. Fill out new LP form with A/W ticked
    3. 2 signed passport photos
    4. Surrender current LP
