Ah what's the world coming too with all these job losses lately in the past few years never expected to see this company be in the firing line as technology and games are still popular.

I suppose they are competing with the likes of Tesco, Dunnes and online shopping for the products that 'GAMES' sell. You think it still be a popular place to venture as much as HMV. If HMV has come into the firing line regarding closing stores and job losses there isn't much hope for companys in the same industry!?

Slightly misleading headline by RTE there, given that about 6% of the "2000 job losses" will be borne in the Republic of Ireland, amounting to 120 jobs.

These are interesting times for high street retailers of games and DVDs, but it's interesting to note how heavily HMV have diversified their trading over the past few years. Also, as far as I am aware, HMV are propped up by major industry suppliers like Sony and Universal Studios, as its survival may be in their direct interest. So I'd doubt HMV will go the same was as Game any time in the near future.

Thanks, didn't spot that. Hadn't seen anything on boards on it since it broke out in the news. Thanks for that.

Yeah but I wouldn't bet on them for the long term.

The writings on the wall for many of these retail outlets.

    ..... just look at Virgin.

HMV are apparently already in trouble.

itunes and online retail is really having an affect on media retail stores. It's possible to buy CDs from amazon who can offer a much larger selection and often, at a lower price.

I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did tbh. Very difficult for high street to compete with online stores, especially for stuff like games, music and dvds.

That was last year though. HMV have received some significant industry support since that.
