Few questions about backing up and protecting game saves.

    Evening All,

My Slim stopped reading disks last weekend. I brought it to Techfixers who weren't able to repair it. A new laser didn't work and they don't do Blu Ray units as they won't stand over the refurbished units they'd have to use. So the thing is useless.

I have a 60GB launch model that's been relegated to the bedroom as an occasional Blu Ray player, because the fan or drive was faulty out of the box and the noise off the thing is horrible. (Two years of complaining about the noise led to me getting the slim as a christmas present / plea to shut up :))

I might have access to a friends PS3 when he emigrates. My plan is to back up my slim to a USB and restore his unit with it. That way I'm hoping to transfer all my photos and music etc. If I log onto his machine with my PSN will I keep all my old game saves? As it will be the third unit I'm logging on to with the same PSN account I worried I'll be sent back to private in Battlefield..

Why didn't you bring it back to the shop?

Getting music and photos onto your friends PS3 is easy.

Do you have PS+? If you do, any games you saved will be there for you to access.
If not, not all game saves can be transferred by USB.

I believe that BF3 saves are on their servers, therefore you should not have to start all over again, open to correction on that though.
Since your other PS3s are from last year, I think you can have up to 5 units active.

    Thanks F1ngers,

TBH when I got the launch model I just thought that was the noise the PS3 made. It wasn't until later when mates started getting them I realised mine wasn't the norm. Procrastination saw out the rest of the warranty.

I was reading up on backups and game saves and confused the **** out of myself. Wasn't looking forward to being busted back to private if I did it wrong. I used to have PS+ but didn't renew it.

Didn't know about the five accounts. Two spare to see me through to the PS4!
