Bumped into someone in car park

A moment of complete stupidity. I bumped into another car in a carpark. I cracked their number plate. I left a note apologising and left my number and my reg plate is recorded. I would like to avoid them claiming off my insurance company because it'll be cheaper to pay for the repair. Could they find out my insurance company and claim or what's the story? How much do number plates cost?

    A numberplate costs 7-15 euro

Thanks. Around £10 so (it happened in Britain).

In the UK there is a system insurers have access to called MID check. From that they can get your insurance details and intimate a claim against you. Assuming there's no other damage behind the front bumper though.... There'll be no real issue. Well done for owing up.

It's an Irish insured car so I don't think it'd show up there. I checked out the damage and was going to leave a note but didn't have any paper. I was going to drive to my digs 2 mins away and come back but got stopped by a witness who thought I was doing a runner (despite having pulled over and rooting through my laptop bag for some paper), she got me a scrap of paper. I've no problem giving them £20 to cover the number plate if they phone me.

No problem. For future reference, always take shots of the other vehicle. Just in case. By the way, if they really wanted to they could still get your details.

Kudos again for stopping. Many wouldn't.

Sound. I'll remember that if it does ever happen again. There were a few witnesses and the receptionist saw it too so I should be alright if they tried to take the piss. Hopefully they will give me a ring instead of chasing up insurance companies, although I think it'd only be a prick who'd do that over a number plate (I had it done to me before, just gave out to the lad who did it, and didn't ask for any money to fix the crack or insurance details). We'll see what happens anyway.
