Cycle to Work - Kilkenny Park and Bike?

    Hi

I'm planning on cycling to work in Kilkenny over the summer, however I need to drive in to the edge of the city on the comer side and I can cycle round the ring road to work.

Anyone know of any parking facilities I can use during the day (pref free) at the comer end of the ring road so I can leave the car and take the bike the rest of the way in?

    Help is much appreciated

    Thanks

I'd say if you parked beside the Glendine Inn nobody would say boo to you.

Hmmmm I wonder if I would get away with that seeing as the car would be parked there for 8hrs a day 5 days a week???

Might try asking in the off-license there first before I do it.....good suggestion though, thanks :D

Could you not just drop the car and cycle the whole way? Where abouts are you coming from?

Nah...I'm not the fittest cyclist, plus I'm coming from comer so it's a spin that's above me at the moment.....but maybe when I get better I'll be more able for it

What is the main reason for you to drive almost the whole way and then cycle the last bit? I just can't see much sense in it, unless you have no place to park your car near your work place.

I'd suggest you drive as far as Mohil in the first week and spin from there. That's only 10k to start with. Then move back week by week until you're doing the 20k by week 4...

Cause its a 12/13 mile drive on back roads and I'm not the fittest.......so my thinking is if I drive the 10 miles to the start of ring road and they cycle the last 3 to get me started on the safer road....then as I get fitter get out more

For the cycle from Castlecomer to Kilkenny I would not use montain bike. It is like driving a tractor to work instead of a car. But for the short trip in the town, i.e. few kilometres it will be fine. Once you bild some fitness, then you can see if you wish to do the full trip and you can search for your road bike then.

This morning coming into work on my race bike(*) there was a MTBer keeping pace with me at over 35kph. So I upped the pace to over 40kph and he just sat there on my wheel.

It's not about the bike. :)

(*) I was training, honest. And it was sunny.
