    Hi Lads, how you doing

My ole rusty mercedes would benefit from the upgrade from the 40 year old points in the Bosch Distributor, I read a lot on the US forums about the
Pertronix kits and they always seem to get good write ups, are they available here is it worth importing one or do we have something as good this side of the Atlantic?

    Good luck

I had one in the Escort. Fitting took all of half an hour (including the manditory tea break) and it was a case of "fit and forget".

I got mine from Burton Power but I imagine any place that rebuilds distributors (H&H, Southern Carburetors etc) in the UK would have them.

123 ignitions have a very good rep.

A a price tag to match.:(

You can buy Pertronix from http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/

(as an aside, if you see Aldon Ignitors they are just rebadge Pertronix units btw)

They can either ship direct from the US, and leave it to you to incur the VAT when An Post nail it on behalf of the Revenue, or they can ship from England and you don't have to worry.;)

I would also recommend the 123 systems, yes they are pricey but you get what you pay for.

I fitted one in my Series 1 Land Rover after getting sick of The Prince of Darkness (Lucas), it is pricey but what price do you put on piece of mind. Still have the original to sell with the car eventually, but it wont go back in under my ownership.

I installed one of maplin ignition kits last year
    http://mobile.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=3162

It replaces your condensor and uses the points to switch a relay so no high current crossing points so no pitting etc. So they shouldn't need maintenance. ( they recommend replacing points every 50,000 miles due to metal fatigue.)
Runs great and I.ve it setup incase the unit fails I can switch back to standard setup in less than a minute.
It is generally advised with petronix etc. To carry a set of points as units can fail without warning.
I've also heard great things about the 123 system.

    That looks interesting decki27.

Do you still have to set up the dwell angle, with this kit?
