Car Roof Box to Transport Bike by Plane

Been searching around for a reasonably priced hard bike box to transport a carbon frame bike to Sweden but not having much luck (i.e. below €250). Was thinking of potentially buying a cheap / second hand car roof box and transporting it like that. Anyone any thoughts or experience?

You want to put a roofbox on a plane?

Well I'm sure Ryanair will accomodate you at the right price...

    :D

    More serious response ...

Roofboxes are not particularly light, and would require quite a lot of padding. A bike bag will generally be cheaper than a bike box, and at least will be designed to protect your bike

Cheers for the shout. But based (on "advice" in previous posts and coming to my senses) i opted for a soft bike bag. Best of luck selling it. I'm sure you'd get a good response on the cycling adverts forum here. Right time of year to be selling it as well ahead of summer.

Got a dhb bag from Wiggle. €80 (including £5 discount for signing up to Wiggle newsletter). Just arrived this morning. Looks good quality and very big. Went for it after reading review on triradar (http://www.triradar.com/2012/02/23/best-bike-boxes-and-travel-cases-review/)
