    Hi guys.

So my current laptop has packed in, and I am on the lookout for a new one.
This is one that I had in mind.

    http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/17_18_inch/80005091/acer_17_3_7750g_52458g50mn_i5_2450_8gb_500gb/details.aspx

I won't be buying right now. Just looking around at the moment.
I'll be doing video editing, gaming and watching movies. I'll also be multitasking quite a lot.

Screen size doesn't matter really, but I would prefer a laptop that's around 15".

Any resolution from 1366x768 upwards is fine.
Not worried about battery life, if I can get about 2 hours I'll be happy.

€700 is the most I'll be spending if I was to buy now, although that may change.

Examples of games I'll be playing are:

    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Sims 3 + Expansion Packs
    The Sims 2

For Skyrim with all the bells and whistles, you'd be better off with a GTX 560M, even a 555 is somewhat below the recommendations. But I don't think you'll find neither GPU in a laptop matching your budget, that Acer is probably as close as it gets.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll hold on for a while then until I can afford a laptop with a better GPU. Any recommendations as to what brand I should be looking at? I've always been comfortable with Acer as I think they offer a good balance between price/performance. Was thinking of building a PC but...

    1) I've never built one before from scratch. I would be able to though.
    2) In my first year of college so being able to bring my laptop around is helpful.

Prices and specs are changing so quickly in the laptop trade, you better bump this thread when the day comes.

You can get indeed DIY kits for laptops but it's rather unusual.

    AMD Radeon 7670:eek: That sounds huge!!! off to google I go....Ooh it's just a rebadged 6650...sneaky AMD.

Medion Erazer (I know not of build quality)

PCSpecialist is worth a look when after a top specced GPU. You'll pay for it though. Komplett.ie on rare occasion will stock a laptop at great price with one.

HWVS is best place to get a Desktop, pick your own parts and they'll build it for ya for €18. Great prices when ordering full build.

Don't build yourself, you get no satisfaction from it like people say you will. Relief on completition is all you'll get. Grey hairs is what you'll get if you run into trouble in the middle of it.

Here if you need help speccing a machine.

www.deliverme.ie if you see a machine somewhere that seller won't deliver to ireland.
