How many cars can you import from UK

I was wondering if you are importing a car from the UK and plan to pay the VRT, how often can you import a car? Is there a limit?

I know if you import a car and for whatever reason you do not have to pay the VRT, then if you sell the car within a certain time frame you have to pay the VRT. Is there a similar rule if you do pay the VRT?

You can import as many as you like once you pay the vrt.... However if you sell them on you may be deemed to be a dealer and do an additional tax return and pay vat on profits.

Are you sure car dealers have to pay vat on sale of secondhand imported vehicles? I would this they don't.

I'm pretty sure there's a limit to the number you can register in a year.

A dealer with a TAN no. pays VRT when he sells a car.
I'm not sure how many imports it takes to trigger Revenues interest, seeing as you give them your details including your PPS no.I'd say you'd come to their attention fairly quickly.

Revenue keep tabs in their own way.
I VRT'd a bike years ago from a chap who had brought in a few from California, the guy who was doing the vrt'ing was most interested in who I had bought the bike from... I am sure its even easier now for them.

It was illegal for him to sell the bike to you.

Yup, it's illegal to sell a vehicle from one person to another in this country, if it's not registered here.

OP if you are thinking of importing and selling on for a profit, don't bother, you will be caught. Once you import a car here you have 30 days to VRT it, anything after that you pay penalties.

I think secondhand dealers have to operate under the margin scheme whereby the profit is treated as vat inclusive and they need to account for It on that basis (rather than the gross selling price).

    I didn't say this.

I said you will pay vat on the profit if you are deemed to be dealing.

I think you are allowed to import 3 or 4 vehicles per year before Revenue raise an eyebrow. When you VRT a vehicle these days they require your PPS number.
