    anyone experienced this much?

basically went to play some games id bought on my htc sensation there but had no internet coverage. the games wouldnt start til their licenses checked and it couldnt do this without internet.

    e.g. reckless racing, modern combat

basically left me sitting there unable to play the games because i had no internet cover.
ive whipped off a few emails to the authors but hoped someone here might be able to help too

    any (legit) workarounds?

I think it only requires internet connection the first time. Can't remember now.

Yes you gotta activate it once you install it. Updating an app also counts as installing I think. Once activated you can use it without internet.

Modern Combat is a one time activation, I know that much.

@Random - there's a new brred of game out there at the moment with DRM which requires an internet connection *every* time you use it. Total pain in the arse. I have a few of them and it wasn't highlighted in the description on the Market. I've taken to reading the user reviews more carefully - someone usually flags the DRM issue.

I had the same issue with Reckless racing and Asphalt, with poor signal in some areas where I work I have no gaming.

asphalt and I think pvz have both done this to me. not just on first activation. either a periodical check or looking for updates on startup and having no internet. seemed a stupid decision.

I only ever play games when I have no reception to surf as it is

Well since you can side loading applications extremely easily on android developers have to find ways to keep a pirated apps to be as annoying as possible. Licence checks is one way :(

The "normal" android drm just checks once... if it's checking all the time then that is some extra drm the devs have chosen to put in.

The sims free play does this on every startup.
If your not on the net the game won't start.

Free apps may insist on ads being available.

Paid apps do the normal market drm check once on startup, anything more is put in specially by the developer.

I'd installed Tiny Tower, because I enjoyed it on my ipod touch, but it's this "Mobage" crowd, that won't let you play it if it's not able to connect online.

this was not my first time playing modern combat so its definitely not just the first time.

im seriously pissed off with this nonsense. like everything the paying customer suffers and those who steal the games benefit.

i suppose ill see what the modern combat team say about it.

The irony of it is such methods just push people towards cracking to avoid them.
