land ownership by a river

    If someone's house is is on the river. up to what distance from the river do they legally own?

    You own whatever is inside the line shown on your folio map, but if you dont own the fishing rights then others have the right to fish along the banks, it will be clearly stated in your folio if you don't own the fishing rights. It is very common on good fishing rivers that the fishing rights are owned by someone else.

    Is there a blanket 3 feet or 2 meters or something of that description that no one owns the bank of the river?

    As stated you will need to check the Folio map and be guided by that. There may be some form of easement along the banking but the details will be recorded in the Folio.
