Hoping to get a holiday with warm sunshine in August.

However it looks like flying is out of the question :-(

Are we stuck with getting a ferry to France and driving for hours?

    Anyone got any ideas?

Probably yes. Where else would you go without flying?

The south coast of England can have very good weather in July/August but it's not as guaranteed as France.

How about a ferry from Rosslare to Cherbourg and then a train?

It's definitely do-able but involves a lot of travelling one way or another.

As mentioned above you could get the ferry to France, Cherbourg has very frequent train connections to Paris so you could head to the south of France without hours of driving, while drinking a few glasses of wine & watching the views outside the train. Depends on whether you like train travel I guess, but options are limited without flying!

Another option would be to get the ferry to the UK and drive down to the isles of scilly.

You could also get the ferry to the UK, drive down to Southampton and get a cruise from there, there are a few companies that leave from and return to Southampton.

You could also get the ferry to Cherbourg, train to Paris and then get the sleeper train to Barcelona.

Anyway just throwing a few options out there.
