How many penalty points to get banned on learner permit, 6 or 12?

    Know a lad that got pulled the other night with a learner permit and was told he would be getting 6 penalty points. Just wondering is he screwed?

    Yes.
    Maximum amount of penalty point you can get at one time is 5.

    Are you sure? It was for a couple of different offences. The guard said to him he was looking at 6 penalty points, suppose he will know more when he gets the summons.

    Getting 6 points from one stop? I thought the most you could get was 5 for no NCT.

    So if you were speeding, on the phone, no seatbelt and no NCT. That is 10 point if stopped on separate occasions and only 5 if stopped at once since that is what the highest offence(NCT) carries.

    You don't receive points for every offence. Just points for the worst. As far as I remember if you're on your provisional and you rack up more than 6, you've to re-sit your theory. When you pass your driving test I think if you rack up more than 6 in 12 months you've to resit the driving test again.

    Just from memory but I think it's something like that.

    Driving up a one way street would probably be considered dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention.

    Most the time with these offences a summons would be issued. I've seen someone been hit with 7 points and 2k fine for a case of dangerous after the judge was finished with them.

    Anywho, I don't make the backwards laws. :D

    He had everything on the window, bar the l-plate ;) I cant actually remember what he said the offences were but that is what the guard said to him.

    Well if he'd a full window apart from not displaying his plates the worst that will happen is he'll be done for no plates or driving unaccompanied. Not both.
