Have been thinking about getting an E46 2.0 Ci M Sport for quite a while and found the colour and spec I want but mileage is 140k miles, anything specifically to watch out for?

I haven't gone to see it yet but going on Monday and the seller, a garage, assures me there is a full service history covering all 140k.

Any opinions from people who have owned them or currently own them would be great, also any info on average MPG with a mix of city/motorway driving at about a 30/70 split.

    Thanks in advance!

Indeed, an E46 would be 7 years old at least, that's 20k miles/year at most on it, not out of the way really. In saying that it should be priced accordingly.

Sorry, meant to say it's relatively high compared to others that I've been seeing.

As above. One way to look at it I guess is that it's probably honest mileage whereas others may have been wound back.

    Price does reflect mileage.

Motorway mpg late 30's sometimes even the early 40's on a long spin. Town and city between 28/32 I think. Sorry I never look at mpg I just drive.

You will get between 390/400 miles from a tank depending on how heavy your right foot is.

I have no idea of what failures can occur at what milage but mine is just coming up to 110k and I have had to replace the fuel pump and the crankshaft sensor.

My E36 is nearly on 200k.. Full BMWSH and honestly bar a bit of driver seat wear, you could park it in a showroom and put a 12 plate on it.

If they are looked after, 400K+ Easily

So I went to see it this evening, last verified service was 20k miles ago, very few receipts for the major work you would expect and interior was tatty and showing the mileage..

    So the search goes on.

........ very few receipts for the major work you would expect .......

I wouldn't expect any major work to have been done to it tbh :)
Fair enough if it was tatty to walk away.

I dunno i think i would have expected something major to have happened within 20k miles!

After 140k miles in an E46 Coupe I would have been expecting some suspension/wishbone work, based on what I've read.

There was also no NCT so walked away. Not in any mad rush to be honest so will take my time. Only problem is if the price of petrol keeps climbing I'll lose my nerve!
