The Irish Legal System and Men vs Women.

I’ve been reading the Unmarried Fathers thread and now I’m curious as to people’s opinions on the treatment of men and women in our legal system? It could just be me but I have always gotten the sense that the law tends to err on the woman’s side more often than not. This goes for everything from custody battles to statutory rape and abuse cases.

Is this really the case and if so why? And is it fair?

Your entirely right, its hugely unfair , especially in the case if two 16 year ilds have se then he gets on the register, she gets nothing.

Its the horrible attitude that feminism brought in of "sex crimes / child abuse can only be commutted by men"

sure the law is biased in womens favour.... if a male under the age or 16 shags a girl under the age of 16 consentually only the male can be prosecuted.

so if a 14 year old lad rides a 16 year old girl only the lad can be presecuted?

Wasnt there a case recently where an underage hetrosexual couple had sex and when it went to the supreme court the male ended up getting fingered for it while the female got off scott free even though it was fully consensual?

And now he's like... a sex offender or something?

*Edit I see references to it above. Ye can type fast, I'll give ye that.

There was a time, not too long ago, when us men didn't have to worry about such matters.
We didn't let women vote. We didn't let them work after marriage, unless it was some sort of job we didn't want to do. We chained them to the kitchen sink with a houseful of children.
    We've really let things slip. . .

I think that case involved more than just him getting fingered

Notable exceptions to this would be rape or sexual crimes.

Its not my fault the femenist movement hasnt figured out how to rise up women to mens level , so instead trys to bring in restrictions, unequal punishment and quotas to drag men down to their level

Not only that but in many cases they have turned on other women. The feminist movement so to speak is starting to come full circle anyway, some of the earliest legitimate campaigners are distancing themselves from feminism today because somewhere along the line it all got messed up.

so if a 14 year old lad rides a 16 year old girl only the lad can be presecuted?

Yep. In the eyes of the law he's a sex offender and she's an innocent girl.

Interestingly, if she was 18, then he would be deemed a minor, thus too young himself to make the decision to give consent and she would be guilty. So it appears the law thinks a fourteen year old boy's maturity and ability to give consent is down to the age of who he gives consent to, not his own age.

    Also remember this case?

    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/analysis/she-was-my-mum-why-did-she-do-that-to-me-2401290.html

She forced her 13 year old son to repeatedly have sex with her. Maximum sentence allowed to be imposed on her was 7 years. Why? Because she was a woman, and the law stated that women were not allowed to be penalised beyond that for raping children. That said, the law has been changed since.

Maybe men and women should be treated differently for the same crimes, etc, I don't know, but they currently are not.

Well in such circumstances there is no registration requirement, see section 3(10) of the 2006 Act.

But of course, that only gets in the way of a good rant, so please, carry on.

It's not my fault that you think every bit anti-male bias and inequality is caused by the feminist movement.

Are you really like? I mean it's been brought up a zillion times here with a tiny minority trying to blame women (the latter group would include you btw - unless you're a man with a very feminine username).

Yes, the law is definitely biased against men - and it's completely ****ed up at times.
    "Tis a woman's world"
The most powerful person in the world is a man - tisn't just yet. :pac:
Its the horrible attitude that feminism brought in of "sex crimes / child abuse can only be commutted by men"
Feminism? The attitudes that women are passive and always the victims, and that men are the aggressors, has been ingrained in society since long, long, long before the feminist movement. Oh and that attitude can be held by men - and such unfair laws have been made by men, so eh... what you're saying is retarded.
Men high-fiving each other over under-age boys having sex with much older women (something you'd no doubt do - and then whinge about inequality) doesn't exactly help either.

As for the other stuff you're saying, I realise you're a woman-hating troll, but you could at least do your trolling in a way that doesn't make you look downright stupid.

Wow, you're actually agreeing with the woman-hater that feminism is the cause of this inequality in the courts? And with his stuff about "dragging men down to their level"? Thought you'd more cop-on than that.
but in many cases they have turned on other women. The feminist movement so to speak is starting to come full circle anyway, some of the earliest legitimate campaigners are distancing themselves from feminism today because somewhere along the line it all got messed up
I would hope they wouldn't cave into the idiotic mindset of "Durrr... de feminists are all man-hating lezzers" seeing as that only applies to the militant ones, not all of them.

While the law does favour them I've often found the criminal courts to be more strict on women. It's like judges are more disgusted when a woman commits a crime. And God help any woman who turns on the waterworks, genuine or not.

Not really sure if this is a man vs women issue, but it definately is awful that Irish women have to travel to England for termination of a pregnancy (with the exception of substantial risk to the life of the mother) when the child they are carrying has no chance of life beyond the womb. Its f**king unnesessarily barbaric in this day and age.

i heard someone talking about this on the radio and describing her experience. From what she said she was treated great and was in and out very fast. In fact her experience, including travel, seemed overall much better than she could ever hope to obtain from the HSE.

Shouldn't be but you know yourself... always a few malcontents anxious to make it so.

Hmmm... OP doesn't seem that "interested" actually.

Thats because in her own circumstances she could not obtain a termination in Ireland and had to travel.

No, I am agreeing that their are notable feminist types who never seem that interested when discrimination based on gender goes the other way.

Feminists who are striving to achieve quotas in the Dáil for example and don't seem to realise that it is just discrimination of another sort.

As for whether Cartman is a woman hater or whatever, the name didn't ring any bells with me. I presume the poster have some form for making 'woman-hater' remarks but I wasn't aware of any.

What I am aware of is that feminism, does not always mean equality either between the sexes or between members of the same sex and that is what I was remarking on, nothing more nothing less.

Edit- Yah my mistake. See the posters other contributions now....reverse...reverse!

No it's because Irish hospitals are third world. Have you ever been in one for an extended period? The beds are so uncomfortable that I slept in the chair one night, and I was there for a sleep analysis. And the temperature was all over the place. This was a private hospital.

How. You say it is barbaric to make people have the operation in another country. I say it is more humane than handing them to the HSE.
