Diesel estate with a budget around 22K

    Guys
I am going nuts trying to find a diesel estate for around 22k.
Looking at 2008 and newer. Well I think I should ignore earlier than 2008, but who knows what will happen to the tax rates.
Maybe I am looking for the impossible with this budget, a nice drivers car that is reliable and wont incur punishing repair bills.
    Has anyone any ideas??

As a general principle I think pre-2008 offer better value, as the tax difference is more than made up for in the price difference. Here's one that seems to tick all the boxes?: http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201211207310470

How about this one - 09 Accord Tourer, 2.2i-DTEC ES GT, 150 bhp I think, plenty of toys too.

Without wishing to start a war here but a 5er touring is a fine car and though there are few available you do get a good bit of bang for your buck

I have a 09 Legacy Tourer, super car

Mind you I was in a previous model Superb a few weeks back...back seat of a taxi
Was dark when I got in so didnt notice the car but for a minute until I saw the badge on the steering wheel I thought it was a Merc it was that well spec'd and the space in the back was enormous. Must have been a foot between my knees and the back of the front seats...impressed

Previous shape Superb is fairly kak. And you should have known you weren't in a Merc if it were that well spec'd! No one can afford the high spec Merc's, so they're all the basic ones!
Hope you're not considering getting rid of your decent car for a mediocre one... space isn't everything!

Current model C5 Tourer is my suggestion. For the OP's budget, a 2010/11 low mileage VTR + Nav spec is within easy reach.

I know a guy swopped a Legacy estate for an Avensis saloon. He wanted a more 'upmarket' interior. The Toyota is loaded with kit but it seemed like a backward step to me!

If out-and-out space a priority it's hard to beat the Superb. Good equipment as well. Accord probably nicer overall though.

If you decide to change your mind about the after 2008 theres always something like a 07 5 Series Touring!

Stretch the budget a tiny bit and what about an 09 Audi A6 Avant?

Shane. Thanks for those two offerings! I love them both. The only thing I cant get is Skoda. Despite the fact my wallet keeps on saying "get it!".

The Accord is definitely on my shortlist. What an unsung hero that car is. Best bit is the test driving. Why dont BMW dump the runflats? Who can afford that kinda ****e anymore?

The runflats themselves are fine, what kills them here is our local fetish for stupidly big wheels. In any case, i'd suggest that anyone who can afford all the other ****e a middle-aged BMW will throw at them won't even notice a few quid more on tyres. Our well-minded 07 320d has made its extended warranty worthwhile every year without fail.

Most people just don't understand what makes a good car really.

There is no way i would pick that octavia over the accord or the legacy. Especially when its more expensive also

I bought an Avensis over an Accord - my heart said Accord. One of the reasons was the Accord's wheel arches impeded on the width of the boot space, but the specs on the Accord are great and it is very comfy to drive.

Not a factor for me but spare wheel or space saver werent standard on higher spec 2010 Accord Tourers - if you want a spare tyre I think it cost about €300 for an insert to replace one of the storage compartments in the boot and a trye (I cant remember if it was a space saver).
