Pearl izumi pull insulting ad?

Apparently Pearl got into a bit of bother after an ad suggested bringing speed back to the marathon.

"the marathon used to be an elite athletic affair. Now it's an all day affair...Honour the spirit of the marathon."

Slow runners got insulted and. EDIT Pearl never ran theCID. Interesting idea but not sure why people are offended.

I remember that ad campaign; it happened a couple of years ago. Some other shoe company, can't remember which (Nike?), did a series of ads celebrating slow runners and Pearl Izumi obviously thought doing the opposite would get them noticed.

It obviously worked if people are still talking about it 2 years later. ;-)
