Im heading to wicklow on sundy with my wife. She is new to climbing and this will be here first time in wicklow. she can comfortably cycle about 60 or so km without any problems. Im just wondering has anyone any handy enough routes in wicklow, that take in some of the sights, but not a whole lot of climbing.

    thanks in advance,
    Lenny

Head out of Dublin via Saggart and on to Eadestown down to Ballymore Eustace.

    http://g.co/maps/t9cmc

The approach to the Sally Gap from Blessington is undoubetdly the easiest and is only steep for the last 1km or so - it is mostly a drag.

Some climbing, but nothing too steep.

    Very nice ride too.

Lots of places for lunch also
    Ballymore Eustace
    Blessington
the cafe at Aurora on the map (actually the Glencree reconciliation centre)

OK. Say Saggart to Punchestown to Ballymore Eustace to Dunlavin to Kilcullen to Naas to Saggart.

Absolutely no climbing (a but lumpy).
    70km.
Or else head out to Blessington and park, then do a lap of the lake. 35km if you were feeling really wimpy.

Maybe its easy for Kerry natives!;) For someone not used to many hills they could be stuffed and reluctant to go as early as the climb up from the Kippure adventure place. I would have thought a lap of Blessington Lakes would be a better introduction! Plenty of stops at Ballyknockan, Vallymount etc. and the view on a clear sunny day from Lacken is pretty good.:)

Stick the bikes in the back of the car, park in Blessington or Kilbride, spin to Sally Gap, have a 1/4 each of vino in the rear pocket along with some treats.. If the weather is sunny and not to cold (big if), park up beside Lough Dann and have a tip of red and a choc snack, spin home slowly the way you came.....;)

Have done Bray to Wicklow Town via Greystones, Kilcoole, Newcastle and Rathnew. In and around 60km. Fairly flat and mainly good and quite roads. Only things to be note is that the road into Greystones is very fast. Can get up to 60KPM+ without trying. And the drag (Windgates) out of Greystones into Bray can be tough going. I have done the route a few times and really enjoy it.

    Another alternative http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1019475

Greystones, coast road to Wicklow, Glenealy, Rathdrum, Laragh, Roundwood, home

Sea views, fast road to Rathnew, rolling woodland to Laragh, hippy café for tae, Roundwood, Sugar Loaf ...

I plan on doing it as my last hard cycle before the Raid.:)

Unfortunately the road around the lake between Ballyknockan and Lacken is closed until the 30th for bridge repairs at Kilbeg. It might still be possible to carry a bike over, maybe somebody here could confirm. It would make for a nice spin though.

    What about.
Start at Ashford go to Wicklow town and take the coast road to Arklow turn right at the top of the main street and head to Woodenbridge then on to Avoca straight on to Rathdrum and on down to Glenealy take a left in the village past gaa club and this will take you back over to Ashford. Finish with coffee/cakes in Mount Usher gardens cafe. about 55km.
