Hope this is ok with the Mods. A simple poll to settle bit of an argument in to where to now for Tebow thread.

If you were the Jets head coach (i'm not saying any of ye are as sexy as rexy) who would you start.

Sanchez, but I still think the Tebow trade is a good move for the Jets (not necessarily for Tebow though).

Ugh, casual fans and the media will think this is a valid question through camp and preseason too. :(

Eh? Because Sanchez's play has been so stellar his position isn't up for grabs? It's only a matter of time until Tebow is starting, the only controversy here is how long it'll take.

Tebow is better than Sanchez in every category, Passing (Only Slightly), Running, Football Intelligence (Only Slightly) and Leadership.

TBH its amazing how average Sanchez is. I think this trade has effectively killed Sanchez's career. The pressure is on big time and i dont see him responding well. I think Stanton will be higher on the depth chart than Sanchez by the end of the season but with the contract extension they will have to keep him for the next 3 years :P

This is great from a Patriots perspective as the Jets are investing in 2 QBs for the next 3 years who will never become elite and bother us...it would have been a problem if they signed Peyton Manning.

Tebow a better passer than sanchez?!

Sanchize but Tebow will finish the season as Jets starting QB. Tebow will become a better QB than Sanchez IMO.

Regardless neither are long term solutions.

More Jets Insanity. First they extend Sanchez's contract, now they unleash Tebowmania on Sanchez's already fragile confidence. Wonder how Holy Joe Tebow is gonna react to one of Rex's profane outbursts:eek:
it looks like the move is already doing the wonderful Jets locker room morale the world of good, Cromartie is already questioning the trade on twitter.
If only HBO were with the Jets this season coming:D

One thing's for sure, Sanchez will HAVE to perform now & produce results, that can only be a good thing for the Jets.

Sanchez purely from a passing point of view which is the first priority for a QB in my view.

All this HBO talk is making me furiously search for the 'Namath' HBO documentary from January of this year. It's crazy how many top quality NFL documentaries doesn't even reach the wilds of the file-sharing world, Lombardi from last year looked equally fantastic.

I don't think Rex is going to be pushed into any move by cries of Tebow from the stands. I'm a Jets fan who has time for Sanchez and Tebow.

I'd still have Sanchez my number 1 but imo it doesn't hurt to have Tebow pushing him, because he's really had no competition since he's been there. I do believe Sanchez can improve, there was a lot wrong with the Jets last year it wasn't just him! But I think that's obvious.

The only thing I don't get is after being so adamant that Sanchez was their guy from the beginning and claiming there was no substance to the story about Manning why then bring in Tebow? Basically saying, "We believe in you Mark that's why we didn't get Manning... But! Because we don't fully believe in you here's our fall back guy!" If I'm Mark Sanchez, I'm a little bit confused!

Also I wonder if Tebow will try implement a swear jar for Rex. I just think the two of them being together is going to be odd! You have the squeaky clean christian boy.... and Rex!

    Well I'm going off ProFootballFocus:
Last season, purely as a passer, Tebow was our fourth-worst graded quarterback, better than only Blaine Gabbert, John Skelton and Sanchez. His completion percentage was behind all of these players, and only a relatively low percentage of dangerous throws saved his grade from being worse.

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/03/22/new-york-jets-sanchize-or-tebow-time/

Passing ability should not just be measured by completion percentage and QB rating.

Not even a contest for me. Sanchez has yet to prove he can be a top QB in the league but at least he is a QB. Tebow is at best a glorified running back.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda I know but how different would the Tebow narrative be now if the stars all would have been aligned and the Broncos could have kept that final game last season with the Pats within say 2 scores? Let's not forget the week prior when Tebow threaded the needle with a pinpoint pass to beat a very respectable Steelers team. How different would things be today if Tebow would have come down with a stomach virus and was unable to suit up for the patriots game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Sanchez will start, Tebow will probably finish.

Anyone else think Hard Knocks needs to go back to the Jets this year?

Pats game had zero to do with Manningmania.

Elway always disliked Tebow so when he got the opportunity to off-load - and only getting Manning would allow him to off-load Tebow and still have a job - he took it. It's that simple.

Elway is hitching his wagon to a rusty 36 year old with neck problems and paying him 1/10 of a billion dollars to boot.

Forget Hard Knocks!! I think MTV should buy the rights to a Real World Jets verision for the whole NFL season. They should put Sanchize, Jesus, Drew Stanton, Sexy Rexy, Cromartie and Holmes all into one downtown NYC appartment and film the whole thing. Oh the antics they will get upto!

    Episode 1:
Tebow steals Sanchizes bed as Sanchize trys to hook up with 17yr old gf...fight breaks out
    Cromartie attacks Jesus
    Holmes attacks Sanchize
Sexy Rexy tries to calm everybody down but fails and ends up comfort eating in the kitchen.
Stanton spends the entire episode trying to escape out the fire exit.

They could even have Sean Payton cameo as the landlord who turns a blind eye to all the carry on in the appartment.

Sure, the ability to actually make all the throws necessary of an NFL QB should definitely be considered also!

Never rated Sanchez, even in college - he's USC's worst QB of the last decade. Any chance of him being a success relied on him completing his senior year - even his own coach said so. The immaturity took over.
Tebow is one of the most dedicated athletes the sport - any sport - has ever seen. Any small advantage in technique Sanchez has is swamped by Tebows multitude of advantages in every other regard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭Donnelly117

I voted Tebow, regardless of the fact that i am not even a slight fan of his... But I think Sanchez is absolutely dreadful. How he is still the no 1 at the Jets baffles me! I mean his throwing accuracy and decision making is abysmal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭fisgon

There should be a "neither" option in the poll.

Just reading up on Sanchez there, wasn't all that into NFL when he was drafted - but how did he end up going at number 5 despite only having one season at starter?

    because hes a qb

    because hes a qb

Well what I mean is, was it not a huge risk to take a player that early in the draft that left college early having only had 13 games as a starter for USC?

it was and the reason they took the risk is because he was believed to be the 2nd best qb in the draft so they overpaid big time

A major reach at the time - and it hasn't worked out for the Jets.

In relation to Tebow - while I wish him all the best - I am thrilled that Tebowmania is now the problem of the Jets and I couldn't care less which ends up as the starter for them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,287 ✭✭✭davyjose

He had a mediocre season but it was with USC - a QB factory - palmer was still considered a top 5 or 6 talent and Leinart not yet considered a total bust. If the draft was this year Sanchez would be a late 2nd rounder IMO.

Does anyone seriously think that the Jets are going to run a remedial offense for Tebow ?

Does anyone think that the Broncos are going to run the same offense with Manning that they ran with Tebow ?

Jets already have a Wildcat package plus they have Sparano who used it in Miami to some effect.

Bronco's offence is going to be whatever Manning decides it to be.

It'll be interesting to see what they do in the draft. You would imagine that Manning would want some WR and TE help. Even if Clark arrives, they'll need more than Thomas, Decker and Clark.

Depends on whether teams have already figured him out after last year.

Very much so, Manning would probably want a pass catching RB as well.

This is what i'm wondering, will they listen to Manning if he says i want a slot receiver, pass catching RB and another receiving TE. Will they go out and draft on his request?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭Syferus

If they dont listen to what he needs there was no chance they'd have been able to bring him in, Manning isn't about to be a passenger in any offense.

I am the biggest Tebow (as a QB) detractor. He is just not an NFL QB. That being said, he is an exceptional athlete and did excel in goal line situations. This is the one are that they could possibly use him that would benefit the team.

You don't drag a team into the play-offs, beat the Steelers and then be replaced and made a back-up at that same team. That's a complete and hideous insult and thinking about how Tebow's talents would still help the team ignores the realities of the situation.

No way the Broncos were keeping him, Elway knew getting Manning was his only way to remove Tebow from the equation and that's almost surely a significant part of the reason he pursued Manning so thoroughly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

Jets were awful on 3rd down last year,Let Tebow run the wildcat in the 3rd down.
Whats the harm,he isnt a great Qb,Sanchez isnt a great Qb,maybe between the 2 of them we will make on e good Qb.

Sparona ran a really good wildcat in Miami and Tebow is a great running back.

Should be interesting at least and would make a great hardknocks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,374 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Also, for most other positions teams use different players with different strengths in different situations (e.g. a power running back on short yardage situations, a scat back from further out; a possession receiver on a difficult route, speedster on the long bomb), so why not at QB??
