Motor tax up-to-date

    Hello,

A friend of mine has an unused car and the tax motor is not up-to-date since more than one year. He uses another car but he wants to sell the unused car from now. Do you think he needs to pay the tax motor until now or does he can just sell the car without having any issue with the tax motor corporation?

And then is the new buyer can buy the tax only from the day he bought it?

    Thanks

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Moved to motors

Your friend doesn't need to tax the car if it has not been on the public road all that time

The new owner needs to pay taxes from the 1st day of the month he bought the car. So if he bought on March 31st, he has to pay motor tax from March 1st

Or, currently, it is still possible to get your local Garda station to sign a form (which can be had from the motor Tax office) declaring a period of non-use.

This only matters if he intends to tax it before selling it.

Exactly^. There would be no point in back taxing it before selling it to you. You will have to tax it from the day you buy it. Whatever the previous owner did (tax wise) is not your responsibility.
