Tax - Couple - 2 Different Countries

    Hi All,

Looking to get some advice on my tax situation. I work and pay tax in Netherlands. My wife works and pays tax in Ireland. I have been out of the Irish Tax system since end of 2006 when I moved to Netherlands. I spend weekends mostly in Ireland.
    Couple of questions.
    - Do my tax credits still exist in Ireland even though I am a Tax resident of the Netherlands.
    - Can my wife make any optimisation of her tax situation - at the moment we are paying tax as 2 individuals. e.g. could she use my credits also - if they still exist.
    - Are there any other things I can do to optimise the tax situation for both of us given that we pay tax in 2 different EU countries.
    - I complete all my tax returns in Netherlands - should I also be completing Irish tax return - my understanding up to now is no requirement.
Look forward to hearing the views on the best options.

The position with regard to mobile/cross-boarder workers can be quite complicated.

Based on what you've said in post above it is possible that you may be tax resident in both Ireland and the Netherlands.

I would suggest that you seek professional advice in relation to this matter. Unfortunately this forum isn't the place to be looking for detailed advice in relation to dual tax residency etc...

There are a number of regular posters to the taxation forum including myself and Mr. Incognito who are professional tax advisers and could provide you with the advice required. Alternatively there are a number of reputable firms that may be able to provide you with the advice required.

I would suggest that you need professional tax advice as there may be an exposure on your income.
