Portugal Golf Trip

I'm planning a trip to Portugal for the first week of May (week before bank holiday Monday) & am currently checking websites to see which one is offering best deal.

There will be only 2 of us, ideally looking for 4 rounds & 5 nights accommodation. Our preference is Vilamoura, & hope to take in the Oceanico Victoria & Old courses.

If anyone has booked anything similar recently & can recommend a website to go through I'd appreciate it.

I hope you've lots of money. I had planned a trip to Vilamoura for end April but all the Oceanico courses are looking for ridiculous money (so I cancelled). Old course, Faldo and O'Connor course €100 per round without buggies. Costa del Sol is much better value and most courses are around €60 incl buggies during May.

I'd like nothing better than to see that Oceanico venture go belly up with their extortionate rates. Do they realise that there is a recession

Been to Villamoura plenty of times, but normally only booked courses I really wanted to play before I left & did the others while there.

What I would say is that while the Old Course is probably worth it, Victoria is nothing special for what it costs. In great condition but a bit bland - if it didn't have a tour event I don't think it would be as popular as it is - millennium and Laguna across the road are perfectly fine tracks, as is Villa Sol.

If you didn't mind the extra bit of travel the south course in Quinta da Lago is a good test.

    Enjoy!!!

+1 on Quinta do Lago, its about 45 mins away and very good (can't remember if it was the North or the South that we played but it was a super track)

There's also an excellent course about an hour (or less) away called Morgado, its up in the hills, but is really good IMO. Very reasonable too if I remember correctly. Head for Portimao and take a right up into the mountains. It feels like its in the middle of nowhere.

Voctoria is definitely not worth the money, very overrated IMO. Millenium and Laguna are fine, I thought one was better than the other but, again, can't remember which was which. Both are grand though. I think its Millenium that has two very different nines and Laguna is slightly better.......

Not golf course related - but +1 for Quinta da Lago - but you might also want to consider renting clubs at Faro airport rather than bringing your own and paying for carriage. Clubstohire.com. Just a thought.

Was in Vilamoura last week. The place was empty I agree the prices Oceanico are charging are stopping people from going there. Another NAMA owned venture I think.
