You must have an android device for this to work!

As found on : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550699 and HotUkDeals

    Linky : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5152607/Dropbox_23GB_S4_v2_theos0o.apk

Step 1: If you already have Dropbox installed on your Android device, you must Clear data, Force close and finally uninstall it from Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Dropbox.

Step 2: Download and install the Dropbox+23GB APK Be sure to enable Unknown sources under Settings > Applications or Settings > Security (on ICS) before installing the APK!

Step 3: Launch the app as usual and log in.

Step 4: Wait for the confirmation email.

The confirmation email can take up to 30 mins

From what i understand the space is valid for 2 years afterwards you go back down to whatever space you had before. Also, the 23GB is added to whatever capacity you currently have eg If you have 4GB now you will have 27GB afterwards.

Also, once i got notification i was able to uninstall this dropbox app and install the market one.

Got this yesterday when I seen the story on RedmondPie.

Got my 23GB extra space within 2 minutes! Was very happy!

Didn't post it here, as I assumed the mods wouldn't allow it...

    Thanks anyway :)

Wow fantastic, just did it, worked perfect! Thanks OP!

Funny I just found another way to get more storage - see here: http://fiverr.com/vatrik/expand-your-dropbox-account-to-10gb - worked great for me I got 8gb. Good for anyone who does not have an Android phone.

    Perfect timing - Cheers

I don't really see the appeal of this... lets say for the sake of argument that you fill up the 23gb over the two years. By the end of it you have to do a massive cleanup/cull of data in your dropbox (or, as I suspect is their goal, upgrade your dropbox to a $10 a month pro 50 account to preserve your data).

Its very handy for students like me. I have a couple of different shared folder which are quite big college projects. So this will be very good. I probably won't use dropbox when I finish college.

I'd say the free cloud capacity will greatly increase in the next two years and they will probablly have other offers to increse your space so you may not have to do such a massive cleanup.

Worked great for me - got the email after a couple of minutes and upgraded. Up to 27gb now, but it says its only for the next 24 months, not 2 years.

I don't think it works for everyone. ;)

A person I know, who tried it, and it didn't work for them.

    Hello...

Don't know if it's me being a twonk...but I followed the sequence to the letter and have not received 23gb? I only installed dropbox on my HTC the other day, but deleted it, downloaded the +23gb APK, logged in, got the email...but it says "to claim your 23gb of space, visit our getting started guide". All this tells me is I am only 1 step away from getting a whopping 250mb.....

I didn't delete and reinstall the market app yet...but seemingly something has gone wrong somewhere.....

    Any advice or tips etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭da wiseguy

Because it said I was only a step away...(from 250mb)...I just did it anyways and now I have the 23gb (and the extra 250mb - whoop).

    Cool - cheers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,465 ✭✭✭MOH

Tried it and I got an extra 3GB of space.

Checked my mail a few minutes later and I had two mails from Dropbox, one giving me and extra 3GB for the next 12 months, and another 4 minutes later giving me 23GB for the next 24 months.

Just checked the app again and I'm now up from 5.25 to 31.25!
So if it doesn't work immediately, give it a few mins.

    Great find OP, ta!

    I'm now up to 36.25GB!

Weird, it didn't work for me. Uninstalled it planning on having another try and then got the email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭demixed

Worked on my 2nd attempt, cheers!
Uninstalled the app, installed again & cleared cache, that seemed to do the trick.

Anyone with an android can get 50gb free when they download box thru the android market
    I have a 50gb box.com account.
    Is dropbox better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭Mr. Fancypants

File size limitation is one big difference. I think it is 25MB for box.com . Dropbox doesn't have a file size limitation if it is syncing with your pc. 300MB if you are uploading directly to their website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭Mr Bloat

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Or in my case, try, try, try, try again.:)
It didn't work on my first two attempts to install/reinstall, on my third try I got a 3GB bonus for 12 months and on the fourth attempt, I got the 23GB.:D 29.25GB in total now, thanks OP.

Actually that is a good point. I have heard loads about Box.com - so what apart from the 50gb, is better than Dropbox?

One thing I would like is be bale to do 'copy public link' in other directories and not just the public directory. Also to be able to share an entire folder publicly. Would be nice to be able to select random folders on my pc to sync too. Can box do any of that?

  • Site Banned Posts: 1,678 ✭✭✭Andy!!

I've been notified that this is a dodgy setup... whats the story with this? Is it not an official promotion?

It's meant to be a HTC only thing but someone figured out how to use it on other phones.

Thanks OP, working for me now. Got the extra 23 upon my second attempt of installing. Added to the free 5gb for the beta promotion that gives me 28gb overall.

Box is quite good. There's is no pc application afaik and the public links only work when the other person is signed into their box.com account.
The android app is nice too
I've never used dropbox so can't compare but the 50gb you get with box.com, you have forever

If you're signing up with a new account, you have to do 5 of the steps, upload a photo.. Install on your PC.. etc... Then you'll get the extra GB :) worked for me

Download keeps failing for me :(
    Edit: nvm...

I had to reinstall it twice and it still didn't work but I tried playing around in the app by looking at a few photos and it worked then. ;)

    Thanks!

I'm assuming this will just clear the phone cache and not the files on my account. I have lots of group work for college in mine and if I somehow delete it, I'll be in trouble

you wont lose anything. you're only deleting it off the phone.
