You won't find a bedsit for under €400.
Where have you looked so far?

You won't get an apartment in the city for 500.

A 1 bed apartment starts at about €600, a 2 bed starts at around €700 but be warned, these won't be pretty.

For a nice city centre apartment you're looking at €800 PCM - the market dictates and demand for high quality rentals in the city is high

Also at that price you'll be looking at least a 6 month lease, possibly 12 month

Doesn't have to be smack bang in the city. Within walking distance, or a bus.

Long distance bus, maybe. Tuam, maybe? Good luck.

    Maybe try a hostel. www.hostelworld.com

You'd find a house share cheaper. Try for lower salthill area. You might get a chalet type granny flat for cheaper, but they are small. Make sure it's well heated if you do.

we moved to Oranmore because the standard of 1 beds in Galway was so brutal and so overpriced. rWe got a nice two bed apartment in Oranmore for the price of a bedsit in Galway. But then it's so nice being in the city. If you can go with a house share you'd get an ensuite room in a nice house for your budget.
