Was in this park today in Crumlin today. There's a cinder running track which would be very handy now Belfield is gone but its fenced off by a 4 metre high fence. I've looked on the council website but theres nothing about openning times. It looks like its used as I could see the foot prints on the inside lanes surface. The AI website has no registered Athletic clubs in Crumlin, but I think the cycle veledrome is been used by cycling clubs. Anyknow anything about its use, its council owned so it should be available to everyone, or who, if any, Athletic clubs use it.

I think West Dublin (no longer in existance) and maybe DCH (not 100% about them) used it in the past.

Is that the Clogher Road track? Wow that bring back memories. Back in the late 70's early 80's BLOE used to hold races there on a regular basis. I think it could pre-date belfield, and was around the time santry was still a cinder track with a velodrome.

Thats it. Its still in fairly good nick, long jump sand-pit and the track surface is still usable. The fence was put up last year after vandalism to the surface to the cycle track. It might be the case of asking the parkys to open the gate to use it.

There is a sign on one of the buildings in that park for a running club, clearly long since gone out of existence. I guess with no running club in the park those damn bikers had free reign to take it.

I run around that same park quite a bit, and have never seen anyone run on that track, but have seen a fair number of cycle meets.

That building (if it's the one with the entrance on Sundrive Road by the junction with Stanaway Road) is in regular use, seems to be at least a juvenille club running from there.

I think the track is primarily (if not exclusively) used by the cycling club though.

It is exclusively a cycling facility now operated by Sundrive Track Club. There is a bicycle workshop and store and changing rooms in the pavilion nearby and the cycling people have the keys for the track.

The track is not actually in great condition. Apparently any glass that lands on the cycling track is swept down onto the cinder track so they carry their bikes across it when necessary.

Forget about using it for running. Pity.

As Bugrman says, the track is in regular use, just not by runners - see here for info.

It used to be easy to get into - I'd regularly stop by after work in summer for a few flying 200s on the bike, if only as a vain attempt to convince myself that I was a track cyclist and not an aging fixie-riding wannabe hipster. Unfortunately, some local thugs set fire to material on sections of the track and melted the surface a couple of years ago, after which the 10ft fence was put up (before anyone quibbles with the "local" part of that, that area is also my local).

It's a shame, but the cinder track hasn't been in good nick for ages, and if you want a run in Ceannt park, you're better off doing it on the grass.

There is a running club listed in there, Dublin Striders?

Ray, I run in that park a couple of days a week and I have never seen any activity in that running club house or what looks like organised runs in the park...

If I had I would have joined that club as its very handy for me :)

A previous poster says its somewhat active with kids, maybe, but not seen it myself tbh

Dublin Striders might be the kind of club where the senior athletes are very focused on track and field, and don't do that kind of running around the park. it's only in the last 18-24 months that Bros Pearse has had a visible group of joggers and road runners.

Dublin Striders were using the track up to last september for juveniles. They don't use it during the winter months because there is no flood lights on the track. They train on Tuesday's & Thursday's. My son left in september but doubt they've left since!

I often see kids being coached around that end of the park, even when its getting dark early and they are just using street lamps and a light on the side of the club house

I spotted another track not too far from there, not sure if it's full size though.

    No floodlights.

It's not full-size. 200m? 250m? I'm not sure. And the surface isn't great, it's like tarmac with a very thin layer of gravel?
