Where to practise around south Dublin?..

I'm sorry if someone has already posted about this but I'm new to boards and dont really know what I'm doing! I've recently got my learner permit and want somewhere to practise with my dad to get a feel for the car and how to drive before I get lessons with an EDT instructor. I live in Blackrock, Co Dublin so want somewhere in the general vicinity such as carparks etc. I've been to UCD once but this was during the midterm break so the college was empty which isnt the case now, even evenings and weekends being busy. I've heard of people going to Sandyford Industrial estate but with the amount of shops and businesses that have opened there in the last couple of years, again evenings and weekends wouldnt be much use. I've read a few threads with people suggesting the phoenix park and carparks/industrial estates in city west but I dont want to have to go so far, waste petrol etc just for a few practices which is why I'd really appreciate if anyone had suggestions of large, empty carparks or suitable locations around the south Dublin area!

    Hi Stinky Feet
New to here myself. Sandyford Industrial Estate is still quiet after 8pm or so and often the only other car you'll meet is another learner practising!
I would suggest though to take an EDT lesson with a qualified instructor. This way you and your dad will know exactly what's required. Your dad as your "sponsor" can then go out with you lots to practice.
I know an excellent EDI instructors if you want his details.
Best of luck with the driving.
    Barry

PS - my only tip - learn in the dark so daytime is pure bonus

    Thanks for the reply Barry.
My mum actually learnt up in Sandyford years back but because of all the new shops etc up there I thought it would be busy pretty much all the time but I'll have to try up there after 8! Considering I only passed my theory test in march, I'm going to have to get the 12 EDT lessons but for the moment I just want somewhere quiet to practise stopping, starting etc! I'd really appreciate your instrutors details, what area does he/she mainly work around?
    Thanks, Louise

    Hi Louise
Sorry only getting back now, maybe you've had a chance to practice in Sandyford now? The guy I used was <SNIP> (hope it's ok to put that up here?) Anyway, he's fully qualified, really good and very patient.
If your feet really are stinky it's only fair you open the window when getting the lesson, he's a nice guy ;)

No Derek, you can't put up details of instructors. Please read the forum charter before posting.

All driving instructor info must be sent via PM. And cannot be posted on the forum!
