Trans fats = bad?

In grouping fats into essential and non essential trans fats fall under non essential, but does that mean that they are all particularly bad?

I'm referring to conjugated linoleic acid in this case. Having a structure of cis-9, trans-11, is it an exception? Or does the structure whether it be alpha c6, c9, t11, or beta c9, t11, c15 have a bearing on how it effects the body?
