iCloud Question

Not sure if its covered already, had a quick search and came up with nothing. but..

Is there anyway to set up and store stuff on the iCloud before you pick up an IOS 5.x device?

I am going to the US next week and plan to pick up the new iPad, and I dont really want to bring my laptop with me to transfer music/movies/books/apps etc onto it. I was hoping to pull some of that stuff down from the iCloud, so I can start getting the best out of the device from the start(not sure how possible that is)

I have installed the iCloud manager on my PC, and when I go to log in, it tells me that although I have a valid Apple ID, but its not iCloud enabled. the apple support site seems to be sending me in circles, but I am coming to the conclusion that you need an IOS 5.x device to enable the iCloud? Am I right in thinking this? Does anyone know if its possible to do it another way?

Currently the only other IOS device I have, is the iPhone 3G, which only runs as far as IOS 4.2, or what ever so I cant use that to do it.

Are there any alternative options? Is iTunes on the iPad a larger version of iTunes on the phone or is a bit more user friendly like on the PC/MAC where I could easily find my purchases from the iTunes Store or the App Store?

No, you need to set it up from a 5 device

And icloud won't sync your music

    Use home sharing for that

You could use iTunes match for your music.
