What is a very good aluminium road bike under €2,000 - what would you recommend? I seem to be veering towards the Treks, 2.1 or 2.5 - Is Ultegra componentry worth the extra money? I am 40 + and just returning to cycling - my aim is to start with small mileage and build it up considerably - a good level of cycle fitness not competition is my goal. Any views? Bear in mind that the only bikes I seem to find are mainly Trek up in this part of the sticks.

Definite post for the Cycling forum.

Have a look second hand. You will get your self a superb bike for around 800 euro generally with full ultegra or 105 (second to ultegra). €2000 will get you a fairly decent carbon road bike with ultegra also. Look at the online sites that may deliver, ribblecycles.co.uk, evanscycles.co.uk and wiggle.co.uk. All have very competitive prices and deliver to Ireland. The ribble carbon bikes are very good value and you can build them up with waht ever components you want.

Why not go carbon frame planet x Ireland.com
    Rt 57 for 1750

I'm back new to cycling overweight over mid forties and up to over 100k after a few weeks on a comfortable rt 57
