Today is the 1st day of spring in America

The spring equinox is considered by many in America to be the 1st day of spring. Seems a bit late to me, I think 1st March is more appropriate, though it's more realistic than the Irish considering 1st February to be spring.

I'm in Chicago and it has been between 24 and 28 degrees everyday for the past two weeks. I could get used to this weather.

Shouldn't spring vary depending on where you are in the world and the local climate?

Anyways, Ireland has a wet and a less wet season not this Summer, Autumn, Winterm Spring bull.

What? I always thought it went like this:

    Spring - February, March, April
    Summer - May, June, July
    Autumn - August, September, October
    Winter - November, December, January

    ... no?

That's the nonsense we were taught in school. February is one of the three coldest months. It's winter.

Yep. That's what I always thought it was. I was taught in school that theres 3 months in each season.

If it went by weather, we'd have a pattern something like — winter, spring, winter, winter, winter, summer, spring, winter, summer, autumn, winter, winter, winter :P

Surely we've the seasons that make the most sense — 1.5mth either side of the solstices are summer/winter, & either side of the equinoxes is spring/autumn.

Early march was still moderately cold anyway. Today was damn fine. Put away all my winter clothes this weekend. I need to tan, I'm so pale :(

+1. The next thing you know we'll be having Ahmericun seasons and holidays here. Well probably just the Monoholiday where everyone says "Happy Holiday" and everyone else gets confused.

The exceptions are gay and hetero days where you can say sh1t like "Have a Gay Day" in a high-pitched voice or "Have a Gee Daily", the Israeli notional atrium.
