Hi, I registered online for NUIG but never attended due to personal reasons. Now they are saying that I must pay fees. I was unemployed and would have got BTEA but didn't complete application as I knew I wasn't going to attend. I cant afford to pay i'm unemployed. Help!

I think if you're no longer going to be attending the course you need to go into the Student Contact Centre asap and fill out a form which effectively removes you from the college. Did you fill this out, because if you didn't they'll just be assuming that you're attending college and haven't payed your fees for whatever reason. I would say go into the Student Contact Centre or the Fees Office and they should sort out the problem for you.

They have rang me saying that as I registered I am liable for fees including penalties even though I never attended.

Maybe if you contact student services and ask for any modules you signed up for which took attendance to be taken into consideration. If you haven't attended they should have a record of you at least missing a disproportionate amount of classes. Especially the smaller tutorials and group work where attendance can contribute to a grade. I know there are circumstances where student fees can be waived due to personal reasons as well and I can't imagine a better personal reason than you weren't attending. Hope it goes well in any case, that's a dose.
