I just read the thread about the fuel efficiency of the 1.4 Focus. So now I have a question.
What is the most fuel efficient car of that mid car size. I was hoping to buy a 2007/2008 focus but now I think the 1.4 is out. Is the 1.6L better is your opinion? Or is it better to bite the bullet cost wise and buy a 1.6 diesel?

My initial criteria for a new (to me) car was hatchback, five door, 1.4-1.6 - ideally a focus but I don't really want something that can't pass a petrol pump!

    Hi

I currently have a 1.6 Petrol 07 focus, I find it fine on Petrol.
I can only compare it to a 1.8 Accord which was much worse on Petrol.

If i'm driving it around town, etc I find it fine. A trip to the other side of the country / lots of motorway miles etc and you'll see it drop, but I've never found it to be complaint worthy.

Just my input, Im not an expert.

What will be your annual mileage OP? TBH there won't be a huge difference in fuel consumption between a 1.4 and 1.6 petrol Focus. However the 1.6 will be a lovely drive while the 1.4 is poor TBH.

You will pay a massive premium to get a diesel Focus but the tax will be low and it will hold its value. However the common belief is that diesel is a very bad idea for low mileage users.

I think I have a fairly average mileage - about 10,000 per year ish. My drive to work is only 8 miles, but weekend driving could be to anywhere in the country really - so I have a fair mix of long and short driving.
