    Hi

I need to get an approved Saorview STB. Nothing fancy - HD, SCART connector, ability to connect a hard drive. I think that all of the approved units do this. I do not want a combo unit at this point. Going back through old threads, it seems that all of the Saorview-approved boxes were the same basic box. Is this still the same or is there one approved box at this time that is better than the others

You're pretty much bang on. Really only two different saorview boxes out there, the Triax TR112 and the Walker WP12DTB-R Saorview Box. Pretty much all the rest are a 'for want of a better word' clone of the walker. The walker and it's clones are cheaper than the Triax but the Triax has a far superior media ploayer if you are into that sort of thing. The other thing is that currently, on the tr112 you can record one channel and watch another, you can't on the walker. This will cease to be the case in the future though when the extra muxes go live and then you will need a twin tuner box to do this. In a nutshell, it's price versus whistles and bells really.

Many thanks for this. Great information even if it is putting doubts in my mind:) I think that my best option is to buy a cheap one for now and maybe buy a better one in 12 months time when we have a better idea of what has happened

Just called into Dwyers here in Cork. Not much of a price difference. €81 for the Walker and €99 for Triax. For €18, I will probably opt for the Triax. Thanks again

Thanks Compton. I found it for €83 on currys.ie. That looks like a good option. I wonder if it is the same price in-store
