Theres a bit of activity there today. That green mesh they put on scaffolding being fixed to the railings and there was a TOP van (Tedcastles) there this afternoon. Looks like theyre getting ready to start work on the new petrol station.

Spotted the activity today.. Anything would be better there than what's there now.

Saw that too, wondered how they could ever let it get in that condition

Yeah that is true. I spoke to the owners. They said they hope to be open before the summer :)

I thought the planning granted was for Maxol, and a Maxol design?

Top is pricey enough for fuel, say ill be still going elsewhere for fuel anyway.

Ah yeah of course, but my point is that it's the owner rather than the brand behind the high cost.

I could be wrong but I think the fella who use to run the old maxoil out there moved out to the Cork road to the top station when that opened

Are they new owners or is it going to be run by the previous owners of the maxol garage?

Ya I used to work in the maxol garage. The owners run the top station out by whitfield aswel as the Top station on the dual carriageway in Ferrybank:D

Could open as a drive-in fuel centre for both oil and coals .

Top are big and their main base is in Derry . ( Kelly Fuels )

They have a former KK hurler on the road for them .

That's good news, we need a petrol station out this way, I bet Londis won't be too happy.

Sorry. I should have stated It's the previous owners (Maxol) who will open up TOP garage.

Yeah lets hope they are cheaper in their products. Though it would be hard to be cheaper than Londis :D

I think you meant it wouldn't be hard to be cheaper than Londis, which I agree with, they are so expensive as they don't have any competition, of course they will have now.

Yeah thats what I ment. In general it will be good for the local shoppers. It will save going to tesco, etc for a few grocery essentials.

McDonalds would do well there. The local chipper will not.

McDonald's would not get planning permission to operate there....

If they build a Mackers there, I'll be taken out the side wall of my house on a forklift in 15 years time screaming 'Im big boned!'..

You'd surely get bored of the place after a while

    Probably.. Wouldnt chance it though.

They seem to be working very quick on the new building. I'd say it'll be done by June or July. (Total guess!)

That will have Some negative affect on the brasscock Centre Londis and the bank machine are the only 2 reasons I go over there. I think the cafe isn't even open now. So if there's a cafe, shop and ATM on the main road nobody will bother driving into the other place which was badly designed in the first place. The only thing that will save them is if Oscars ever open up again....

So then, its a Maxol station, the company cladding has been lashed to the fence and there is an advert in the local papers looking for a tenant. I'd have thought they'd sound out that angle first.

We had a thread on this a while ago, its been known to be Maxol for a few years. Would have thought they had a tenant alright!

Hi does anybody Know who the new tenant will be for the restaurant.
At the Maxol service station Dunmore road. re applications for jobs.

Open since Thursday (with tidying up still ongoing) and like wasps to a jam pot, teenagers are flocking to its shiny delights! Anyone who drives that section of the Dunmore road probably needs to pay particular attention as they get near.

Ha, I noticed that as well. I can’t remember having such a draw back in the day. It is nice to see that site being returned to a sensible use though. It is not really suitable for anything else.
