I'm looking to go to Sharm el Sheikh or somewhere similar for an All Inclusive resort holiday. Wondering if anyone has any tips? There's a lot of conflicting reports out there so thought I'd get the real scoop from the Boardsies

i wouldnt go there again. its a kip. annoying arabs always haggling with you which takes the fun out of holidays. plus the palestinian border between gaza and egypt is now open so it can be quite dangerous to holiday there

stayed in hilton at naama bay in sharm

loved it, by far the best resort ive been to

went as a couple and did snorkelling, diving, quad biking, trips to various places, lots of nice places to eat there too. the 'annoying arabs' can be a bit, well, annoying i guess. but thats just the way it is.. at least theres not many annoying irish teens puking all over the streets, i guess you have pros and cons eveywhere

I was there a few years ago and i would recommend avoiding the whole resort at all costs.

The food is absolutely terrible and if you look at tripadvisor people get sick all the time. Both myself & wife got sick really badly.

Plus you have dodgy lads hassling you all the time, is a fake compound type place. Really horrible.

    Avoid at all costs IMO.

Hubby and I went to Sharm three years ago on hols and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the Hiton Dreams resort and it was fabulous, just across the road from the beach.

We were hassled a little bit in the evenings to go to restaurants etc but we jsut politely refused and that was that. We also had no issues with food and I'm a very fussy eater.

If you are looking to go to Egypt to experenice the culture etc, dont go to Sharm. Its a nice place for a beach holiday though. It was built just for tourists so you could pretty much be anywhere in the world! But saying that the beaches are nice, snorkling is amazing, plenty day trips like Dahab for snorkling, diving. Don't be put off by how dangerous it seems, if you are a novice there is always someone by your side.

If you want a mix of "real" egypt and touristy, I would recommend Luxor. It has a pretty good mix, although you will see alot more poverty there, which can be a bit tough if you are a bit sensitive. It doesn't have any beaches but has most of the must see places in Egypt plus amazing balloon rides to see the sunrise over the valley of the kings, if thats your type of thing.

I went there for 2 weeks, booked a 2 week package holiday to Sharm and then booked seprate internal flights and hotels to Cairo for 3 days and to Luxor for 4. The package holiday was the cheapest way to get flights and acc in Sharm(400eish for 2 weeks in April) the flights and other acc, it came in about 200e so still very reasonable.
We booked our internal flights wilth EgyptAir and ticked the resident Egyptian box and the flights were only about 20-30 return. That was a few years ago so not sure if you can still do that now. We had no questions asked at the airport.

    Have a great time:)
