Ryanair and liquids, gels etc. in cabin baggage

Just a note to be aware that on a recent quick round trip from Shannon to Stansted I brought my liquids and gels (toothpaste, after shave, deodorant etc.)
in a small see through ziplock cellophane type bag contained in my small cabin bag. All items were a 100ml or under which conforms to the new EU/EC regulation for this type of carriage. I was fine going out from Shannon at security but when coming back from Stansted I was informed that the bag containing the liquids and gels was too big and I would have to ditch some items to get it allowed on board, now the bag was only marginally over the 1 litre size capacity and I had to re- pack everything in it into the "conforming" plastic bag which they gave me, a right pain in the a$$ really, especially if in a hurry. No major deal really as I just ditched a travel size can of shaving gel and mouthwash but I did find this a bit petty and snide by the security staff. So the story is MAKE SURE THE SIZE OF THIS TYPE OF BAG IS ONLY 1 LITRE CAPACITY OR WHATEVER THE ALLOWED DIMENSIONS ARE ON THE AIRLINE SITE!

It's got nothing to do with an airline and as far as airport security goes, it either conforms, or it doesn't. Petty does not enter in to it.

You were unlucky to get stopped, but in these cases you just need to accept it and chalk it up to experience.

Most UK airports are very strict on what's allowed and what isn't. It has nothing to do with the airlines as Fred has already said. It's an EU measure that's implemented by the airport security, not the airline.

At least they gave you a conforming bag. In Dublin you have to pay for them!

I didn't mean to specify any airline and as stated I am aware it's a EU regulation. All I'm saying is its an easy thing to overlook the size of the plastic bag that contains the liquids etc. even as in my case the said gels and liquids conformed to all the regulations it was just that the bloody (plastic) bag was a couple of inches too big!

This stupid law is going to be gone by April 2013 and sooner is airports have the new scanners installed before then.

Looking forward to not getting ripped off for water airside!

I travel a good bit and the only airport I got hassled about bag was Standsted. Been forced to use their regulation plastic bags twice.

I passed though Rome airport last year and forgot to even take my liquids out of my hand luggage and nothing was even said! Not sure if security noticed. Goes to show different countries have different feelings about enforcing this rule.
