I am looking for a program free/trial to get data from a floppy disk when the disk will not open and the drive can not read it or know of its presence. The floppy drive says insert disk in drive A when the disk is in drive A

If the drive cant read it you have no hope of any software reading it, can you try it in a different drive??

If the hardware doesn't recognise the disc, no software (free or commercial) will save you.

The drive is OK, i.e. it's working fine with other discs?

It works with some disks. Would t fail to open because of a different version of windows? Is there any way to copy the if it is the disk

As mentioned before, try another machine if you have one with a floppy drive.

Other than that, it's a (pricey) job for a professional data recovery outfit.

As a curiosity how would the professionals do it?

They'll remove the magnetic disc from the floppy and try to recover the data block by block.

But it will cost, their dust-free cleanroom facilities and hardware are not cheap, you know.

If you want to try something free, maybe try

    Unstoppable Copier Or OpenSource TestDisk
