Replacing blown speaker in '98 Civic, options?

I've removed a blown rear speaker (just behind rear seats) on a '98 Civic and am looking for a replacement. The old speaker has a Molex-type connector but no manufacturer information, just some manufacturing codes. Quick browse on the Halfrauds site shows that most speakers have coaxial or component terminals though instead.

Any recommendations on what to get as a replacment and where to find it? I want one with the same connection so I can plug it into the existing harness. 5" diameter cone, square mounting base with 3.75" mounting hole pitch, factory spec. Only need a basic speaker, no bass monsters required, thanks!

    Just cut the plug off?

^^^ + 1. It's only a connector - if you're handy with a soldering iron, you'll have a new one on in the time it takes to trawel the scrapyards.

It's an option, but the harness is quite short and I might have to splice an extra length of wire if the plug is chopped off. Not difficult, but just hassle.

My soldering skills aren't bad, but my soldering iron is AWOL so I'd need to get a replacement. I'm a bit surprised there isn't a drop-in speaker replacement available.

If you take apart the socket on the end of the vehicle wiring (carefully, you may want it in future), you will (probably!) find that you can take off the whole plastic part and you will be left with two female spade connectors which will slip onto the male tabs on speakers. Might need a quick gentle squeeze of a long nose pliers to get the best snug fit.

My experience would be from a first gen CRV which is based loosely on the Civic platform. But my speakers were built in, not on a parcel shelf. You may have to add some wiring or an adaptor harness if it's a parcel shelf you are dealing with. You could look for something like this closer to home on eBay or wherever.

Haven't seen speakers with co-ax or component connections! Just looked up the speakers I fitted, they are described as "type: co-axial" but this doesn't describe their speaker connections, just the physical arrangement of the woofer/tweeter I think. They had two tabs, like spade connectors, for electrical connections.

By the way, those speakers were not an exact fit for the CRV, I just got em cheap. If you can get exact fitting speakers it will make your life easier. My "installation" is DOG rough. :o
