All this talk because of one almighty failure. Had we won v England would all this talk be going on? This talk should have been happening aaaaages ago.

All this talk did happen ages ago, but we did nothing about it and so to This Paddy's day disaster .

Now we must do something about it before someone is seriously injured . I suspect the solution is going to takes years and some more heavy beatings ahead of us.

Ronan Loughney has played probably the majority of his rugby at loosehead and covers both sides. He plays for Connacht though so is out of the picture essentially.

We've been criticising Kidney's selections at TH on this board for years now.

He wants to declare for Australia though so probably not one to consider.

I think Loughney is worth a look tbh. Whenever I've seen him, he's looked fairly solid in the scrum and Connacht even won a penalty try against Toulouse with him at tighthead (that is my dominating memory of him, it tends to wipe out any bad scrummaging days he has had). But...I haven't seen all of Connacht's games this season, but I've still seen a good few and I don't think I've ever seen him destroyed in the scrum. And as he can actually play both sides, he's got to be worth trying at international level, at least. Might never be class but may fill a gap until we develop a few of the young lads.

I didn't see any threads on it though on as large a scale as this, also people on here complaining about it won't get things done unfortunately

Aussie qualified and wants to play for them

Speaking of Aussie qualified there was rumours about this guy a while back

It says in his profile that he spent 2007 in Ireland. Someone on MFs claimed that it was to visit his Irish grandparents so he could be IQ

Also Healy has escaped the blame for England, he was shocking in the scrums I thought.

I thought he was being unfairly blamed by some. He did what he could, but there was litterally nothing he could do when Court was being destroyed like he was.

Wheres that Ulster prop from the AIL gone that Leinster signed?

Anyone remember who I am talking about? Can't remember if he was a tighthead or not.

Shawe? One year deal only, had injury issues from last march and was released. 33 next month, has gone back to ballymena I think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭Samich

Let's not forget this either, John Hayes was tighthead, Hook was the main one saying we're fecked when he's finished, Ross comes along and does an equally good job.

Ronan O' Gara was outhalf for years, they said we have no good outhalves coming up, we'd have paddy wallace. Sexton arrives.

Basically players pop up out of the blue so expect the same to happen when ross is nearing the end. Also COurt didn't do badly in any other game he played when he came on.

Will you stop, how could anyone rate Ireland's scrum once Ross went off, all 8 of them were poor in one sense.

I see that Murphy has come off the bench a few times so far this season. He has played at both TH & LH so it is a pity that he wants to play for Australia.

Pity Stephen Moore didnt declare for Ireland either! :P

I think once this new rule og 1 NIQ Tighthead and 1 NIQ Loosehead comes in, we'll see Afoa staying in Ulster and DuPreez in Munster. If so, Archer will have to start for Munster.

Personally i think the IRFU should have Greg Feek working will as many Irish potentially test level props as possible this summer. Then they could really get a good look at their basic skill levels

Frankie has just declared that Archer should have been on the bench for Ireland. If it wasn't so tragic and stupid it would be hysterically funny.

    Typical Frankie :P

I do like Archer, i think he has potential considering he's still young. I'd pick Hagan or Loughney ahead of him at TH tho right now

    Sheahan really has no shame.

I know he is still very young but how is Martin Moore progressing? -archtypical th prop. Was very injury prone -esp shoulder,
.Impressed me a lot last year in the Under 20 (I think) internationals -very good technique and useful around the pitch as well.

This on Against the Head? I missed the first 20 minutes.

That is so hilariously misguided it would be funny if he wasn't paid to give his opinion.

Is Archer one of his clients?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,636 ✭✭✭✭Tox56

This is the problem, people like Thornley, Sheahan and Hook have a strong influence general public opinion on rugby, and they are serving up rubbish like this. People who have a passing interest in the game have no reason to doubt their opinion.

Archer in that game made Court look like he was doing a solid job on Saturday.

It still frightens me from a Munster POV.

Obviously we might find a TH prop who can scrummage consistently at the highest level, I'm hoping Archer can reach that level but at the moment, he's a long, long way from that. We take out Botha and our scrum collapses. And what happened to Ireland on Saturday could happen to Munster in every HC game against a decent front row.

We have to start developing tightheads but we can't just magic them up out of thin air.

Ah come off it now :P

Archer was on the backfoot in the wolfhounds game but he wasn't marmelized like some people were going on like. Also taking into account the fact that the english front row in that match far outclassed Wilkinson, Varley and Archer on paper coming into the match anyway

Archer is one of his clients, yes. He should be banned from RTE for bringing punditry into disrepute. I'd walk away from a drunk bloke in the pub if he suggested that. A professional pundit chancing it should be told there's no place for him on television any longer. He'd sell his soul for a penny.

I'm pretty tempted to write a letter of complaint to RTÉ. That's beyond taking the piss.

Because of this he's actually worse than Hook IMO.

I'm sure they get plenty of complaints about Hook over the years. Tbh I don't think it's all down to him. His opinions seem much more reasonable on the radio... I think RTE tell him to be controversial.

I'm sure there's a case there for RTE breaking some mode of commercial law by allowing him plug his players like that. Were I an agent I'd certainly be looking into it. It's a complete farce.

Just watching Against the Head now and in fairness to Sheehan he was saying that younger lads need to get a shot. He named Archer along with Hagan and Loughney. So it wasn't just Archer he was talking about.

What amazed me more than anything was that they didn't talk about the coaching of the Irish team in any way shape or form. They didn't talk about the substitutions. It was all about the TH prop issue and nothing more. Very light in terms of analysis.

When does The Breakdown air? Has that been on yet since the England match? I usually have a fair bit of time for Franno and Williams, though they tend to agree with each other a bit too much. I think someone like Foley would make a fantastic addition to the show.
